Think Impeachment procedings are not in the best interest of the nation? Maybe some reasoning also besides just the votes aren't there.

1. Dude, just click onto 'Post' up above in the icons, then hit 'Is this a poll'
It will then prompt you on how to set up your questions. Good luck on finding anyone NOT in favor of impeachment.

2. We did not hold them accountable last time (Iran-Contra) or the time before (Watergate)...
So if we don't hold them accountable this time, then I suggest we just put our democracy in the toilet and flush ceremoniously... Feel free to salute as it goes 'round and 'round and disappears in a whooshing gaplunk...

4. There's no point to discussing this issue
All you are asking is for people to come forward to take abuse for disagreeing with the majority position here at DU.

VichyDUers for example.

5. I haven't made up my mind about it yet
I support impeaching Gonzalez first and then possibly Cheney. I would like to see if those impeachments do require that all other business like Iraq and global warming gets put aside. I just don't see how logistically (meaning I don't see the public accepting this at the same time) the Dems could impeach both Cheney and Bush simultaneously and then install Pelosi. I think the Dems would have to build a case against Cheney and then get the public onboard for impeaching Bush.

6. You simply search the dozens of DU polls on the same subject.

7. Treason trumps impeachment. Read what Pat Lang had to say about Chalabi
Edited on Fri Jul-13-07 11:14 AM by EVDebs
Iran used Chalabi to dupe U.S., report says
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2001935950_iranchalabi22.html

"Patrick Lang, former director of the DIA's Middle East branch, said he had been told by colleagues that Chalabi's U.S.-funded program to provide information about weapons of mass destruction and insurgents was effectively an Iranian intelligence operation. "They (the Iranians) knew exactly what we were up to," he said.

He described it as "one of the most sophisticated and successful intelligence operations in history."

"I'm a spook. I appreciate good work. This was good work," he said."

Impeachment would be too kind a punishment, IMHO. Nixon was impeached with one of the charges being 'abuse of the CIA'. This is far beyond that now. My jaw drops to the floor seeing the media's diversion of attention away from anything going near this subject. DU should be on this like whiteonrice.

8. We are facing an unprecedented number of critical issues as a nation,
including the Iraq War (tough one), Iran, health care, climate change, deficits, undue corporate influence, dollar, outsourcing, education and competition, energy, china, worldwide fundamentalism...and more. These challenges have been met with bad decisions and inaction over the last 6 years and it is clear that this administration is not qualified to deal with them. Impeachment for high crimes and misdemeanors (which are surely more extensive then even DU is aware of) not only is the sole road to accountability and preventing this kind of thing in the future, but it will get us people who are more capable of addressing important issues that must be addressed NOW, if not sooner.

Impeachment may not end in conviction but sometimes conviction isn't needed for the process to be successful... the debate is key and is the right thing to do. MAYBE... maybe debate would lead to impeachment or maybe just censure or maybe appointment of special prosecutor or maybe we would find out about more misdeeds or maybe the country would find out which republicans want to defend WH misdeeds or maybe republicans would ask officials to resign rather than face impeachment or maybe more people would be exposed to the truth or maybe the next president who wants to break laws would think twice about it or maybe it should be done because it is the duty of congress to do it or maybe journalists around the world would help investigate or maybe extensive public discourse in the media would help convince even more Americans of the necessity, or maybe other countries would see the rebellious effort and realize that all the insanity of the last 6 years is not reflective of our country, or maybe this group of criminals would be so distracted they wouldn't have time to think up new ways to screw us....A LOT OF GOOD COULD COME FROM AT LEAST THE DEBATE.

....and we know that more bad will happen without the debate, don't we.
