Bernie Sanders on Hartmann's show just said the Senate will
be voting on the bill to demand removal of troops from Iraq by April next week. He said he expects to be able to get 53 to 57 votes in favor of cloture. Is there anything we can do to make that the required 60 votes? If we call our Senators starting today, do you think we as constituents can force the issue?

I'm sure going to try, but my Sens are Chambliss & Isackson so I don't know how successful I'll be.

1. Every time another vote comes up in the Senate on this matter,
the votes are closer to that magic '60'.

3. There's always the Sleeping Beauty tactic.
Give Bush, Cheney, and Rove each an apple with a sleeping potion, so that they can't blackmail the senators or give anthrax threats to the senators. The sleeping beauties can be woken up by the kiss of a handsome prince, but I doubt there will be any volunteers.

4. They Need To Vote On This Every Single Week Until Nov. '08
Get the Repubs on record WEEKLY voting against the troops.

5. I don't know about every WEEK, but that's apparently what
Reid is planning to do. Bernie said every time they take a vote, they get closer to the 60 required, and also force people to SEE just which Senators are consistently voting against their wishes.

I'd just like to see them get the darn 60 votes NOW, and even 67 to override a veto!

6. Ask every single one of your neighbors to call them
call your talk radio and tell the listeners to call their senators
Write a letter to your editor
Post a message on your newspaper website

Put the pressure on. Only if they understand their asses are in a sling will they do anything different

7. This Is What We Should Be Forcing....
C'mon Code Pink...sit in at Lugar or Alexander or Dimeneci's office. Get the cameras there and force them to defend enabling this regime by not allowing an up or down vote.

Cloture means we can't bring the bill to the floor...where we DO have the votes to pass the bill and force boooshie to Veto it. Then we put the pressure on Democrats not to fold...to force boooshie to compromise or lose all funding.

Bernie's talking a the way to get things done. We have to make noise...phone calls, letters, blogs...confront the corporate media and right wing spinners...and demand an up or down vote on the war funding bill, the Webb ammendment and other bills the Repugnicans are obstructing.

Yep...5 Senators with weak-knees is all it takes to make something real happen.

8. Please try with all your senators
At least you will have tried and the senator cannot honestly go on the air and sanctimoniously say, "Well, nobody contacted my office in support of the bill to withdraw the troops."

9. It can't hurt to put your two cents in, even if your Senatore is McConnell
He's a marked man for 2008 any way.

10. if they don't pass cloture
then Reid should go ahead and call the bill for debate. Let one of the assholes put his career on the line by tying up the senate for the entire frigging week reading from restaurant menus or something. I think they'd cave.

They'll cast a vote against cloture, but see how long Boehner or McConnell will actually filibuster, with calls flooding his office...

11. Not unless impeachment is on the table.
Otherwise, what's in it for them to go against Chimpenfuhrer?
