Dittoheads and Rush Limbaugh.
Does anybody know the origination of the term, "Dittohead?." I know it's in relation to the Rush Limbaugh show, but was the word "ditto" used by Rush Limbaugh or was it assigned to him by our side?

I'm asking because I'm trying to trace back the steps of the "water cooler phenomenon," named for the office waterhole where people casually congregate and chat and share rumors and ideas which spread across the office faster than a NASCAR race car. And, if you go far back enough, you remember that Rush Limbaugh was probably the first disseminator of right-wing thought.

I'm just wondering, he was also the first paid pundit, wasn't he? It's all just looking so clear, now that we can examine things in hindsight.

1. The Phenomenon Isn't Unique To Rush
Rush's audience isn't the only group of folks that like their own opinions shouted back at them...

That being said, dittohead comes from the phonemomenon of one Rush caller after another saying agreeing with Rush and saying "ditto" to everything he said...

8. I believe it came from
Rush encouraging his callers to just say "ditto" when they wanted to express agreement rather than taking up air time simply reiterating his own statements.

He needed more air time you know.

(I used to listen to Rush occasionally just to peek at the dark side.)

10. From the Urban Dictionary
When the Rush Limbaugh show started in 1988, many callers would express how much they loved the show. It took a lot of air time, so he asked them to just say "dittos" to agree with previous callers who like the show. It doesn't mean that they agree with everything he says. If you were one of his 30 million listeners you would know this.

Now I feel all dirty searching for Rush information eeww.

11. Dittohead 1. A parishioner of the Church of Rush,
an unaware victim of severe chronic irony deficiency (maybe prescription drugs would help.) 2. The charming and colorful language of Rush Radioland.

12. I often listen to The Great Windbag at work...I actually work faster and
better when I'm yelling at the radio for things this jerk says. Although lately, he's been on a tirade about Global Warming...(just by the amount of airtime he gives it, it shows that the RW is terrified of the subject).

Anyway...since taking calls uses up "valuable" airtime, and interferes w/his pontificating, he pushes these dolts to use the "ditto mechanism". Even on "Open Line Friday", he spends 85% of the 3 hours on lame diatribes that most often have no basis in reality, allowing callers a mere 15% of the time to agree w/him. It is far worse on the M-T sessions, where he easily takes up 95% of the airtime doing little more than tossing out some "curious" science "facts" and general shitweasel talking points.

His most potent weapon is the unheard of 7 second delay. 2-3 seconds is the norm, but 7 ensures that he won't get "caught" in his lies and obfuscations...even then, some well spoken people have burned him.

What I find interesting is that he actually believes he is some form of "genius", when the truth is, he knows nothing, and gets paid big bucks for tossing out ignorant views and shamelessly twisting truth into lies. Anyone who can say that "Clarence Thomas is the greatest USSC Justice this nation has ever seen", should be horsewhipped, tarred, feathered and paraded around the streets of the nation while bushels of rotten vegetables are handed out to the populace.

About a year ago, one guy got away with a mention of "Jeff Christie" before the delay kicked in...Rush was audibly in a twist as he tried to get out of the implication by changing the subject extraordinarily quickly...:D
