I just was a guest on Mike Feder's show SIRIUS Satellite Radio show and learned something deeply, deeply offensive.

The liberal channel is called "SIRIUS Left."

The conservative channel is called "SIRIUS Patriot."

SIRIUS Satellite Radio doesn't think you're patriotic. This is an obscenity.

SIRIUS's media relations representative for talk radio is Hillary Schupf. Her email is hschupf@siriusradio.com. Her phone number is 212-901-6739. Let's start with her. Share what she says in the comments. This cannot be allowed to stand.

Conservative channel is called "SIRIUS God-Worthy Patriot"
liberal channel is called "SIRIUS Heathen, God-Less Pieces of left-wing Human Garbage."

i'm a leftist, and i don't care if anyone thinks i'm a patriot or not.

Whoever is allowed to define words, is defining IDEAS.
And "defining ideas" is CONTROLLING ideas.
They know this, and they've been working hard to define
words for decades.

And it's worked.

It's going to take a lot of work to undo all the mass
brainwashing that their "stupid words and meaningless gestures"
have perpetrated upon this Nation's citizens.

We are a nation of liberal values which currently considers the
word "liberal" to be an insult. That's not "meaningless". Not
by a long shot.

Say what you like about marketing types, but they do know how to target specific groups of people. I suspect they simply recognized the jingoistic themes that run through right-wing radio, and labeled the product with that in mind.

The Opposite of LEFT is RIGHT.

It took me thirty seconds to fire off an email. It was time well spent, IMO.

Words do matter.

i'm just waiting out the Sirius/XM merger and see what falls out from that. too late to change the game at Sirius, i think.

although we could look at it this way: Sirius Left is what's Left after the Sirius Patriots are through with pillaging our nation.

Didn't Bill Maher say something to the effect that patriotism is like penis size, if you have to go around claiming you have a large penis, usually the opposite is true. This administration thinks their use of semantics will alter the outcome of the world events that are their responsibility no matter what label you want to call it, what do you think?

Actually they have Sirius Right and Sirius Patriot. Oddly enough I think they believe this is offset by the NPR channels, which mostly recycle Diane Rehm and Terry Gross.

My more serious complaint is the programming on Sirius Left, which blows even more than the one channel they've allocated. Its awful in the morning. Bill Press and Alex Bennet are just dreadful.

Lynn Samuels as well. She belongs in a mental institution. And that's coming from a wacked out lefty like me. The only good thing is Thom Hartmann and replays of Steph. I call Press and Bennett up from time to time and give 'em what for. I'm Dan from Michigan, if any of you ever listen :hi: I listen because they're the only "liberal" talkers I can hear in my area - BFE Michigan.

And, Garrett on Alex's show is unbelievably ignorant, bringing the tenor of the dialog way down.

Lynn Samuels, I know what you mean. I tried, but enough already with the Ballerina song and Nat'l Enquirer gossip.

The Young Turks had promise, but were floundering and got jettisoned to AAR. (Presumably, they're getting their foothold, I haven't heard one way or the other, but I'm starting to see both Cenk and Ben make appearances here and at C & L).

There is a mere hour of Hartmann in the morning and Stephanie Miller on Sirius competes with Randi Rhodes on our local channel in the afternoon.

I'm glad to see this thread, I'm really rethinking my Sirius subscription, when local offers more and better. MKJ

Garrett doesn't talk on Alex Bennett anymore. I have to admit, the show has gotten better since, but it seems Alex moved to the right a little bit after that happened. Good thing is more callers get in now, which is who I like to listen to anyway. As far as I'm concerned, Alex is just there to say "you're on the air, hello", the callers make the show.

I miss the Turks, but I saw Cenk and Ben last night on the webcast, and they're as sharp as ever, they'll do fine.

The fact that they cut Thom Hartmann back to one hour to put that babbling old bag on the air makes even less sense than XM pre-empting Thom for Ed "if you disagree with me, you hate the Jews" Schultz).

Alex Bennett is OK, but I'd rather they played Stephanie Miller live in the mornings, and then the full Hartmann show. And of course, keep Mike Malloy live. However they want to program Noon - 6 (Pacific) or after 9 PM doesn't matter to me.

As for Bill Press, he's on too early here for me to worry about.

so basically three right-wing stations. I can't remember if the Fox station is just the news or if they carry talk shows like Hannity as well.

First, they had ABC Talk (Hannity), Sirius Right and Sirius Left. Then, when Air America was added to Sirius, Sirius kept Sirius Left and added Sirius Patriot. When Air America dumped Sirius (don't start, Rosco), Sirius kept Right and Patriot, but put Radio Korea in the Air America slot (later moved). When Sirius caved to add Fox Talk, Sirius Right was dumped. Thus, there is now ABC Talk, Fox Talk, Sirius Patriot, and finally that channel for pinko commie bastards, Sirius Left.

I agree that the Sirius Left programming blows. Bennett sucks. Samuels sucks. Both of them need to be chained to a radiator while Mike Malloy yells some sense into them.

Even the in-house promos for Sirius Left sucks. Instead of playing a Hartmann or Malloy rant, they play Bush talking and then a sound effect. Dumbass management at work there.

Thanks for the heads up! I don't listen to the talk radio on Sirius and didn't know about this.

IMO, this is much ado about nothing. I suspect both stations named themselves to appeal to their audiences. Any time I see a button or bumper sticker that looks like a badge of "Patriotism" my skin crawls and I smell Amurika's half-brains.

Sirius is getting flack from BushCo who won't let them merge with XM, and they are constantly under the (soft) threat of censorship. Just listen to Howard Stern's rants and it won't sound so RW.

I don't think this is much ado about nothing in the least.

The guest DJ's range from Neil Young to Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine)--as liberal as you get. They give air time to the Al Gore concert, even still.

If this OP is about improving the name of the liberal talk station, I'm ok with that. If it's about Sirius being RW, I don't buy it. I like listening because I don't smell the air pollution that stinks up commercial radio.

Bennett says this is why "he hates liberals and progressives" because he's a "leftist" and "leftists" don't do this. He asks why we don't have more important stuff to do. He must not realize that it only takes a couple of minutes to shoot off an email. Bennett also said he objected to the name when they first put the channel up, and he did, I was listening that day. Frankly, I think he's a bit jealous that we may get the station name changed to Sirius Right when he couldn't.

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are making an impact, and people are paying attention. They're ridiculing us, but like Ghandi said... First they ignore you, then they fight you, then you win.
