A few weeks earlier, when a reporter traveling with Mr. Bush in Europe asked him if he had seen any progress toward national reconciliation in Iraq, he said, “Yes, look, they’re close to getting an oil deal done.”

4. That seems to be it.
It doesn't matter how many die, it doesn't matter how much we pay for this "war", it doesn't matter how many lies are told.

It's all about the oil. And the oil companies are already so wealthy they really don't need the money. At all. :(

3. That's what this whole f**king war was about: an "oil deal."
Couldn't Bush and Cheney just have closed the deal on a golf course, where so much of America's business is conducted, without having to murder some 1,000,000 people?

5. Of course that's what it's about
The insurgency isn't just about Sunni vs. Shiite because they hate each other. That is a huge part, but they're fighting over the same things that everyone has a civil war over. Power sharing, money and resources. No one in the administration anticipated any kind of power vacuum in the post-Saddam Iraq. I guess GWB & Co. just figured that we'd topple Saddam and then all of these factions would just come together in the spirit of national pride and go against human nature of selfishness.

7. That's where his priorities are and always have been.
Get that oil no matter what it costs us. He and his buddies need to be richer.
The first thing that will go after American troops leave is the "oil deal" Bush is so obsessed with.
