Fambly Values: Did Vitter father a child with a prostitute now living in Alexandria, Virginia?
Edited on Mon Jul-16-07 09:52 PM by Maddy McCall
From "Watching Conservatives," by Mark Kleiman:

I have some actual news to report, but first some commentary.

1. Yes, in general a politician's sex life is his or her own business, meaning none of mine.

2. However, if a politician uses "the sanctity of marriage" as an excuse for gay-baiting, then he deserves to be taunted mercilessly if he ignored his own wedding vows.

3. Hiring the services of a prostitute may or may not be a sin, and God may or may not have forgiven David Vitter. (Apparently he has a direct line to Heaven, but I don't.) But it's certainly a crime. It's bad for lawmakers to commit crimes.

4. If Sen. Vitter thinks that hiring prostitutes shouldn't be a crime, does he plan to propose repealing the law? (Even under Home Rule, Congress has the power to change the laws in the District of Columbia.) If he thinks it should be a crime, does he plan to confess and plead guilty?

5. The Bush Administration is so fervently opposed to prostitution that it opposes providing HIV-prevention services to workers in the sex trade, putting them, their customers, and their customers' spouses at risk of what remains an incurable disease. Does Sen. Vitter think he and his wife deserve to get AIDS from his interactions with prostitutes? If not, would he like to reconsider his support for that stupid and vicious policy?

6. It turns out that the escort or escorts Vitter hired from the Palfrey service weren't his only experience with commercial sex. Vitter carried on an affair of several months' duration with a prostitute — pardon me, that's "sex worker" — from the French Quarter. (The lady's surname sounds Hispanic; perhaps, as a friend suggested, Sen. Vitter's fervent opposition to immigration reform reflected a general disposition to screw Latinas.)

So much is public. Now here's the news.

It isn't yet public, though apparently it's widely known in Louisiana political circles, that Vitter's commercial romance was blessed with issue. Reportedly his natural child now lives with her mother in Alexandria, VA. That they are receiving financial support from the Senator has not been shown.

1. Public figures are entitled to any public scrutiny they get.
The public didn't pick the guy out of hat to serve, he was the one who made the choice run for office. Anybody that thinks Vitter is a victim in any of this should have their head examined.

His undoing is going to be his contempt and fraudulent behavior to public in the matter. Something even makes me think them other things might have even been ignored from many his constituents

2. So he's had unprotected sex with prostitutes and is a dead beat "father?"
 You know, his actions are just so beyond the pale... He belongs in prison, IMO.

7. You hated him way before I did. If he has a kid he's not acknowledging
that's seeing the light of day, I think he's done. IF that comes out, and it's already out. I think he's done.

8. Yeah, I have disliked him a looong time.
So have other DUers who have been targeted by Vitter's rhetoric.

But your "do I care" reference was kind of, well, dismissive of this new info. You may not care, but lots of DUers do.

11. I dislike David Vitter for many reasons...
chief among those is that, according to him, I am supposed to feel some sort of shame for having the gall to raise my son in a single-parent household, which is not "God's Plan."

I dislike David Vitter because he voted against allowing my gay brothers and sisters the right to marriage and to adopt children.

I dislike Vitter for a multitude of reasons:

Got to give credit where credit is due during Katrina. Lott did work for his constituents. Vitter didn't.

17. Now If His Name Were Kennedy
Or Clinton
Or Condit
Or Hart

Our beloved corporate media would be digging like there's no tomorrow...rushing to get the latest interview or little rumor or spend hours speculating and projecting.

Anyone remember Bill Clinton's supposed illegimate child? The wingntus and corporate spinners were all over it until the paternity test proved negative. Ya think Senator Depends would submit to a similar test?

It's never the act that gets one in trouble, it's the response. Senator Depends has dropped a pant-load on this one. He came off as not only guilty as all hell, but weak...having to have the Mrs. defend him. And it's all a charade. Hopefully this story will keep walking...putting pressure on Senator Depends to finally quit as he becomes a walking punchline.

23. i've heard this before and i wish my memory was better
Edited on Tue Jul-17-07 03:57 PM by pitohui
i can't remember where i originally heard the story but it was quite a few years back and the version of the rumor i heard, he had acknowledged the child but this may be the reason he was forced into marriage counseling in the first place

i don't think wendy walked into the brothel and caught david going at it, more i think the prostitute was demanding support for the child and that is how she found out in the first place? when you pay child support that's a lot of money going out of the household expenses

26. That's a logical theory, pitohui.
I imagine that's how many wives find out that their husbands are unfaithful...when the mother of the baby demands support.

If you can think of where you heard it...please post! I'm kinda obsessed with watching Vitter go down in flames. :)

as long as she can stay a senator's wife.

I feel for the kid. She/he didn't ask to have an asshole for a parent.
