Dear Madam Speaker,
In the past I have written to you as the person who leads our Congress, yet your response was that I am not in your district. I believe that as an American citizen, and with consideration of the position of national leadership held by you, I am to be regarded, as should be all Americans, as someone who is in the larger district of the world, the United States of America.
At this point in time, more so now than ever, Madam Speaker, you are clearly charged with upholding our constitution and following the rule of law of our great nation with due respect and intent on behalf of all American citizens.
The cry for impeachment of President Bush and Vice-president Cheney is growing louder each day. During the years these men have been at the helm of our country they have chosen to lie, betray and deceive. Yet, no one holds them accountable. They get away with obfuscation, diversion tactics, and distancing themselves from their direct actions by being allowed to put others in the path of blame.
I realize that technically there must be investigations and hearings to create the case for impeachment, but I ask you today to read the following article as to why there would be no need for lengthy hearings, complicated investigations, or even time-stealing indictments causing precious time to be wasted. And then, please, take the time to read not only the remainder of my letter to you, but to give careful consideration to all the words in this missive and plea to you.

Their crimes stand open on the table before us. Their lies about Iraqi ties to al Qaeda are on videotape and in writing, and they continue to make them to this day. Their claims about Iraqi weapons have been shown in every detail to have been, not mistakes, but lies. Their threats to Iran are on videotape. Bush being warned about Katrina and claiming he was not are on videotape. Bush lying about illegal spying and later confessing to it are on videotape. A federal court has ruled that spying to be a felony. The Supreme Court has ruled Bush and Cheney's system of detentions unconstitutional. Torture, openly advocated for by Bush and Cheney and their staffs, is documented by victims, witnesses, and public photographs. Torture was always illegal and has been repeatedly recriminalized under Bush and Cheney. Bush has reversed laws with signing statements. Those statements are posted on the White House website, and a GAO report found that with 30 percent of Bush's signing statements in which he announces his right to break laws, he has in fact proceeded to break those laws. For these and many other offenses, no investigation is needed because no better evidence is even conceivable. And rather than taking three months, the impeachment of Cheney or Bush could be completed in a day.
But the investigations that Congress has pursued at its glacial pace over the past six months, while thousands upon thousands died, have produced another impeachable offense, the refusal to comply with subpoenas. That is what President Richard Nixon did; and his refusal to comply with subpoenas constituted the offense cited in one of the three Articles of Impeachment approved by the House Judiciary Committee on July 27, 1974 as warranting "impeachment and trial, and removal from office."
Bush and Cheney are claiming executive privilege. Nixon also tried that one. It didn't work then; and it won't work now. Condoleezza Rice is claiming, with more frankness, that she's just not inclined to comply. Even Nancy Pelosi ought to understand by now that the removal of the threat of impeachment is what empowers the White House to ignore subpoenas, and that the threat of impeaching the White House for its stonewalling would break down the wall even before we reached impeachment.

The truth is already at hand.
All of Bush and Cheney's lies and deceit have been recorded, revealed and unraveled on videotape.
For the past six-plus years I have always known the truth about every lie spoken by either of them, and or by those who "serve at the President's pleasure", as if Mr. Bush were some potentate who would clearly destroy anyone who would not follow his wishes. That is not what our nation is based upon.
The Founders of our nation wrote the Constitution creating a definitive course of action needed for a government by and for a well-informed citizenry. It has been the most powerful document to date since the Magna Carta. Our nation is in not only a constitutional crisis, but is also in peril of the backlash of future attacks as Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney continue to lie and deceive, to continue their ambiguously defined War on Terror, all the while intentionally undercutting the very building blocks of democracy.
Our nation is not safe with these men at the helm. We, the people, are being treated as cattle sent to the hold of their iron ship. In turn, they are allowed to send us adrift while they handle the steering of our country from an insulated and safe place of seclusion.
The People's House is not currently accessible by its citizens. And, although technically there are only 17 months before these men must hand over their positions to new leaders, there are still many horrors, lies, deceit and constitutional deconstruction they can, and most likely will, accomplish before their time is ended.
I can see clearly that what Bush and Cheney have done over the past almost seven years will have a long-reaching and very negative effect upon our nation for years, possibly decades, to come.
I want my two young grandchildren to become adults in a nation of democracy--a nation that is second to none, and the freedom to participate in its governance.
Madame Speaker, as an American citizen, I charge you with my nation’s well being. As a mother and a grandmother, I ask that you keep democracy alive for all our children, and for the future of the many generations yet to come.
Sincerely,
XXXXX XXXXXXXXX
