Great America Owner Implements Life Jacket Rule at All Parks
Great America Owner Implements Life Jacket Rule at All Parks

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- The parent company of an amusement park where a 4-year-old boy drowned last week will now require children under 48 inches tall to wear life jackets in all its pools.

The new rule implemented Monday applies to pools at the 18 parks owned by Ohio-based Cedar Fair.

Great America's Great Barrier Reef wave pool remains closed indefinitely since the death of Carlos Flores. But the life jacket rule has been implemented at the park's Castaway Creek "lazy river" ride.

1. Good idea...
But it wouldn't be necessary if people would WATCH THEIR KIDS. How do you not supervise a four-year-old in a swimming pool filled with hundreds of people and then blame the lifeguards for not seeing that your child was in distress??

2. Hopefully they've also gotten rid of those disembowling drains.

7. I don't think that happened at these pools.
IIRC, you're referring to the tort case that made Edwards in/famous for its $25M settlement.

That was a different pool.

6. Just sayin' in general - they need to be gotten rid of *everywhere*....
... preferably BEFORE some kids' guts are clogging someone's pipes.

13. Super, more nanny rules
I really am starting to fear the future.

Not because of global warming or endless war or corporate slavery though, but because our work force is going to be comprised of those who have no idea how to function without someone holding their hand.
