NFL star indicted over dog fighting
Story Highlights
Michael Vick personally took part in killing some dogs according to indictment.
Michael Vick faces two-part federal charge related to dog fighting ring
Authorities confiscated more than 50 dogs from property in Virginia
Three other men also named in federal indictment

(CNN) -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick faces criminal charges and a possible prison sentence for allegedly participating in an enterprise that trained pit bulls for death matches in which spectators bet on the outcome, federal prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick could face six years in prison if convicted.

Vick, 27, and three associates were indicted by a federal grand jury in Richmond, Virginia, on a conspiracy count alleging they bought and sponsored dogs in an animal fighting venture and traveled across state lines to participate in illegal activity, including gambling.

According to the indictment, dogs that didn't show enough fighting spirit, or that lost matches, were put to death by a variety of methods, including shooting, drowning, hanging and electrocution. Prosecutors allege that on one occasion earlier this year, Vick participated in killing eight dogs.

A National Football League spokesman said the allegations against Vick would be reviewed under the NFL's personal conduct policy.

"We are disappointed that Michael Vick has put himself in a position where a federal grand jury has returned an indictment against him," said spokesman Brian McCarthy. "We will continue to closely monitor developments in this case and to cooperate with law enforcement authorities."

If convicted of both portions of the conspiracy charge, Vick could face six years in prison and a $350,000 fine, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

1. The NFL seems little more than a gang of criminals these days.
To think that kids look up to these slime balls is disgusting....and the obscene amounts of $ they are paid is just as grotesque. :puke:

We live in a warped society.

3. Good! Dog bodies in his backyard and he sleeps just fine.
All the money in the world doesn't eliminate stupidity and common sense.

4. My only hope is that, if he's convicted he pays the same penalty
that any other person would and should pay.

Now, we can argue rationally about what those penalties should be- but really, isn't the bottom line here equality under the rule of law?

6. That is the bottom line...equality under the rule of law...
He committed a crime...should be prosecuted....if he goes to jail...oh well.

let him see what someone might pay him to run and throw the ball again.

I reckon he'll have learned a lesson- and more importantly, been a lesson for everyone else to learn.

5. Let me be the first to say it, and get it out of the way...
Michael Vick's career has now officially gone to the dogs.

...And there may it remain.

8. Another reason I could never be a judge

Mr vick's sentence in my court would be that he be stripped naked, his genitals smeared with blood and he be placed in a pen with about 20 of the dogs he abused.

If he failed to show enough fighting spirit,he could be shot drowned hung or electrocuted.

I'd go all old testament on his ass.

9. At least you're honest and forthright
which shows that you have more integrity than most of the federal judges who've come up for confirmation these past 7 years.

10. Vick's career is over
New commissioner will not go for this crap.
From what they are saying on the Atlanta Journal Constitution blog
on this, the indictment has some terrible stuff in it.
The other thing I noticed is nobody is coming to
his defense.

11. That bastard. He deserves to lose his career and go to jail if it's true.
Pit bulls are the sweetest dogs in the world when treated right. I have one. I had her brother too until he died from an enlarged heart. And boy, he had the biggest heart of any dog I've ever known. That was the greatest dog I've ever had. I love his sister just as much but he was really emotionally evolved. And I'm so glad I have my Ruga, she's a real snuggler and a total goofball, making me laugh at least a half dozen times every day.

What a shame the way people treat these spectacular dogs:

Chocolate Ice-cream Face (ChIF). 100% Sweetness. May he RIP:
