One thing I find disconcerting is the Congressional amnesia
The minority always says that they have a right to be heard.

The majority always says majority rules.

When they change places, they both pretend to forget what they used to say in the other's shoes.

I'm surprised I haven't heard the Dems say that elections have consequences.

And suddenly the Republicans have forgotten about bills deserving an "up or down vote"

This is my first change-over since de-sheepling myself. Is it always this way in Senate-land?

1. Congress and the voters have amnesia
In 24 hours we sent from a 97-0 vote that basically says it's okay to invade Iran

to an all-nighter trying to end the illegal occupation of Iraq

2. Congress has always used the tools available to legislating:

Caucus
Agenda
Roberts Rules of Order
Congressional procedure rules
Procedural maneuvers
Debate, discussion, rhetoric
Votes

among other well known functions...on both sides of the aisle.

It seems slow as molasses at times (slower than the House), I know, and an arcane dance at others, but it does move forward a legislative agenda for the country.

I enjoyed what I saw of last night's marathon, even knowing what the outcome would be.

(aside) I was pleased as well that Reid pulled the Defense budget off the floor to pressure for amendment agreements.
