should I take this as a threat?
as most of you know I do cartoons, the website I have them on allows for comments to be sent the cartoonist

unfortunately, they are funneled through the website, so I have no direct way of knowing who sent the comment unless they included their info as part of the comment...

ennywho - I have a "fan" who writes me stupid comments on a daily basis.

the comment I received today has me a bit concerned... what do you think?
I am considering contacting the website and "reporting" it... looking for your thoughts

below is the comment and the toon it referenced:

Comic Date: 20070718
Drawing:
Idea:

Writing:
Overall:
Read:
Email:
Comments: in venezuela mr chavez knows how to
take care of annoying cartoonists. he
won't put up with such nonsense. you'd
probably end up designing toilet paper
patterns.

1. A threat of what? Giving you a new job? Your joking, right?

But, good cartoon, though.

why don't you just have his IP address blocked from accessing the website? Nobody needs a stalker.

3. Can you reply?
So you could set the record straight and inform him of the fact that you do not reside in Venezuela but, in fact, you live in a far more dangerous place.

I wouldn't worry about the fool, personally.

Great 'toon.

4. I'd report it to be safe and I wouldn't be too worried. This person
resorts to ambiguous comments to strangers. How effective can s/he be?

The message is irrational.

11. thanks for your input
yes - he's probably some cellar dweller... and I'm probably over reacting...

I personally can't block the comments from being mailed to me, as I just get them forwarded in a fashion which doesn't give an IP address or anything traceable back to the writer.

I can contact the website and make my concerns known... Since 99% of the comments I receive are from this "MORAN" it shouldn't be hard to figure out who he is

the funny thing is that he thinks he's "discouraging" me, but with every comment and every view of my toons it ups my hit count and only helps promote my toons

12. Are you sure there is no way to track IP addresses.
Most websites that have comment sections have the ability to track the IP of the person who made the comment through the web apps admin control panel. All the web forums and blog sites I have setup had this feature.

13. I can't track it
but I'm sure the website admins would be able to

all comments are "filtered" through their site, and I just get an e-mail from the site

14. Yeah they can track it then...
If you run into problems in the future just e-mail the admin and ask for the IP.

15. I'm just going to start a file
and save the e-mails, if the cellar dweller comments escalate then I'll have a history of documentation...

16. Well, not a threat as such.

Hardly worth bothering with, I'd say. A snit. A buzzing fly...
