To paraphrase Abraham LIncoln - We can not live both part free and part slave and we can not have just the laws we like and only those laws. That is indeed the path to division; and a house divided against itself will not stand.
I think my fellow veteran understood what I was saying - I am for the Constitution: all of it. I think both he and the people he was serving pork need to better understand that there much held in common by those who say they are for Law and Order and those that hope for Peace and Justice. Bush is a threat to all of our liberties - to all of us.
I hope the other veterans at Pigstock 2007 understand that impeachment is not just an option; it is an imperative. Impeachment is only partisan in its adherence to justice and the rule of law. Impeachment is not a Democratic tactic and it should not be spurned by Republicans. Impeachment is the Constitutionally prescribed method for dealing with politicians who think the Constitution itself is “just a damn piece of paper.”
I hope my fellow Americans will soon awake to the fact that democracy is not something you can consume while on a couch listening to pundits and politicians. Democracy is something you live. And, the Constitution is something all our public officials have sworn to “support and defend against all enemies foreign and domestic”. Make them adhere to their oaths of office.
George W. Bush, swore an oath, once on 20 January 2001 and again on 20 January 2005. It is found in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution of the UNited States. Bush swore to “the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." The only reason he is the President is to do just that. A President that says the Constitution is “just a damn piece of paper” foreswears himself and is a oath breaker and his statement an abomination. George Bush has not only broken laws, he has broken the most sacred of vows.
Most American have never sworn an oath so they can not literally be foresworn. They can forego their Constitution. Will they though? Please, please not.
