NC Republican party continues to shield disgraced "Suck it, baby, suck it!" legislator

Nearly a week after a state House member resigned under a cloud, legislative leaders have given no explanation for his departure.

David Almond, a Republican from Stanly County, abruptly resigned July 12 in the wake of news about a complaint against him by a legislative employee and a statement that said he would defend himself against the charges. Legislative leaders have declined to say what the nature of the complaint was, but House GOP leaders described it as a serious allegation.

The way the issue has been handled has meant that neither voters in Almond's House district or the public at large know the circumstances of a complaint that led to the resignation of an elected official.

House Speaker Joe Hackney said Tuesday he would not release Almond's e-mail and computer records. The News & Observer requested the records the day after Almond resigned. After consulting with his staff attorney and an expert at the Institute of Government, Hackney said Tuesday he wants to review policies the legislature relies on to keep their e-mail from public view.

"I'm not comfortable with what's said to be policy," he said.

Privette, the president of the Christian Action League in North Carolina, was charged July 19 with six counts of aiding and abetting prostitution.
