IMPEACH: CONYERS said: "WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR - LET'S TAKE THOSE 2 GUYS OUT"-Kpete live from S.D.

John Conyers gave me goosebumps. He arrived with "minor rock star status" -- (or better!) at a reception sponsored by the Progressive Democrats of America.

What a beautiful man - a wise and true gentleman, joined us just now in San Diego at the Holiday Inn for a reception. And there were goosebumps when he said on entering the standing room only crowd (filled with impeachment and other signs):

"What are we waiting for? Let's take these two guys out!"

(Huge cheers in the room!!)

Yes, he really said that - first thing as he came in the door here in San Diego and repeated it again later. He is mingling with us common people and will soon give a talk. I was so excited when I heard those words, I just had to share.

Also, Land Shark was here and talked to Conyers in the presence of others about the disastrous Holt bill as well as impeachment issues. Conyers stated that he would be going for inherent contempt - he declared that as his intent.

MORE LATER, kp

UPDATE:

Conyers Now Speaking

Iraq - after 6 yrs. no easy solutions
Clear NOW - Only thing we can do - GET OUT OF IRAQ AT EARLIEST MOMENT POSSIBLE!!!!
Thunderous applause

ALL ABOUT OIL

Enough is enough

SPEAKING ABOUT ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS, CONYERS SAID "WE NEED TO HOLD MORE PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE FOR AIDING GEORGE BUSH & MR. CHENEY"

Having spoken up himself, Rep. Conyers asked all citizens to get involved in speaking up themselves, defending the Constitution, and defending democracy.

He spoke up today, we all need to support him, and ourselves.

A big cheer went up when Rep. Conyers said he would now address election reform. Privately, before the speech, he indicated to Land Shark that Holt's HR 811 was defeated, yet there still remains some ambiguity about that....

In the public speech quoting Mark Crispin Miller's elections book "Fooled Again" Conyers remarked that we got fooled in 2000 and again in 2004. He remarked that his committee in Judiciary has an important jurisdiction over the DOJ's Civil Rights Division relevant to elections.

Just shook Conyers hand

signing off, with goosebumps, kpete

What Next For the Bush/Cheney Administration? Maybe Guillotines!

They’re immune to all laws, they can throw you in the gulag for any reason at all, and they can lock up all your money and property if you’re “impeding” whatever crazed satanic bullshit they’re doing now or in the future. So what can Congress or the Military or you, the hapless citizen, actually do to stop them? We’ve consulted top historians and constitutional scholars — the ones that came up on the first page of the Google search, anyway — and they’ve got some fun advice for America.

Congress can have double-secret proceedings, too! According to today’s Post story on the whole “contempt no longer exists” trick, there’s another kind of contempt that the House and Senate can independently prosecute: “Both chambers also have an “inherent contempt” power, allowing either body to hold its own trials and even jail those found in defiance of Congress. Although widely used during the 19th century, the power has not been invoked since 1934 and Democratic lawmakers have not displayed an appetite for reviving the practice.”
more.......................... :applause:

114. No dictators in Congress, so if statements are greeted the way you do, they can fizzle support
So, statements like yours are self-fulfilling prophecies, the very fact you express them tends to deflate the buildup of political desire to impeach, and make what desire that does exist seem more diffuse.

And then, when the prophecy in fact self-fulfills, will you and those similarly protecting themselves from disappointment by being cynical have a certain "I knew it" feeling? Bottom line: we each have a vote or an influence in whether this builds momentum or fizzles. In light of that, where do you REALLY stand? I suspect in favor of impeachment. Say so. We should not discourage attempts to light fires just because some other struck match didn't set the world ablaze the first time. Persistence prevails.

Words. I realize that you were not talking to me, but a collective.

The word.

Idiot:

1. A foolish or stupid person.
2. A person of profound mental retardation having a mental age below three years and generally being unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive.

Either definition cuts deep. Perhaps, it would be best if, as a people, and a party we learned how to parse our words and, rather than lowering the bar, lifted people up, even when those people were at their lowest and tired of the apparent rhetoric. By taking the high road - always - one can rest assured that more and more people would get behind the very process that had, to them, become wearisome and tiring.

Words are sometimes used to express a whole gambit of emotions, just as your post did. I realize that there are certain posts that are less than perfect and not formulated with all the proper gung-ho rhetoric that is best conducive to a pep rally or a motivational seminar, but that is when the bar needs to be raised the highest. That is when, those that do see, keep themselves steadfast in their knowledge and hold true to their ideals and continue to lift and build, rather than tear down and destroy.

Besides, I prefer the word ignorant. Ignorance is curable.

Peace.

167. Thank you for the definition of "idiot."
Edited on Sat Jul-21-07 12:28 PM by Jackpine Radical
I would, however, point out that as customarily used, the term actually refers not only to the profoundly retarded (IQ<20), but also to those who meet DSM/AAMR criteria for severe retardation (IQ<35). That point is moot in any case, since the term "idiot" is not in current diagnostic usage.

All that said, you might be interested in checking out the definition of "hyperbole."

Rep Conyers laid forth for the WH to comply to the Subpoenas issued. After that he promised that Inherent Contempt will be issued. I am in nervous anticipation till then.

If Rep. Conyers issues this the House will still have to vote on the issue. I forgot how many votes will be required for Inherent Contempt to pass.

she will 'allow' it to go forward, but not participate.
sort of like recusing herself - make someone else 'acting speaker' for the proceedings

she is, after all, in line to be pres if it goes forward successfully. I think she is overly shy about looking like a power-grabber

When it becomes abundantly clear to both Democrats and Republicans that the only choice for our country to move forward, will be to impeach Cheney and Bush. Congress is biding their time and when the timing is right, they will proceed. I doubt it will be a long drawn out process either.

Once I was trying to figure out what the "ignore" icon meant. So I clicked on it at the top of one of my posts. I got this error message:

"You cannot add yourself to your ignore list."

As an activist who sometimes spends waaaaaaaaaaay more hours changing the world than my life can really sustain, it was a good affirmation for me.

Sadly, that error message seems to be no longer available.

Seriously, though, I think it can be very powerful when someone who has important things to say and is nervous about being on the air cares enough to call in to a show. And this is a perfect place to try it, since you know the host will be kind to you.

Just have a glass of water ready, in case your throat gets dry.

169. I've noticed that when Hollywood wants someone who looks and
bears himself with extraordinary dignity, they cast an African American, such as Morgan Freeman or Denzel Washington. If Congressman Conyers did not possess such a towering intellect, more aptly usable for other purposes (I'm not knocking the value of entertainment), he perhaps might have been 'discovered' by some casting director, mightn't he?

116. Cynical statements like that create the very problem you complain of
Politician tries to light a fire under democracy, you throw cold water on it. I think that's premature at best. If we're stuck out in the wilderness trying to light a fire and tried ten times, are you going to be sitting there making snarky comments or hoping for the best each time? Nobody in Congress is a dictator so they are not personally responsible for making something happen they need to be supported.

So if you like it, say you support it, don't dilute it with cynicism
If you don't like it, say that too

You've a free speech right to say whatever you want but it is plainly premature to say anything at this point about the ultimate outcome of this.

PS Fox6 TV was there, plus lots of folks from Michigan including me, so I'm sure there were folks there from his district already.

151. Some of us people have been trying to light that fire for a couple years now
and politicians like Pelosi and Conyers are the ones throwing cold water on it. I have zero respect for Pelosi and I am losing faith in Conyers. While he continues to fire up the people with his 'talk', our troops and innocent Iraqis continue to die, our president has given himself the ability to declare martial law anytime he sees fit and he has ordered the treasury dept to seize the assets of anyone who "interferes" with the so-called peace in Iraq.

In the meantime, Conyers has banned the wearing of pink in his hearings and Pelosi is arresting citizens who come to her office to ask why she has taken impeachment off the table.

So you all can continue to let empty rhetoric get you excited. I will jump up and down when I see these Dems actually DO something.

http://www.americanrevwar.homestead.com/files/BOSTON.HTM

The Boston Massacre (the killing of five men by British soldiers on March 5, 1770) was the culmination of civilian-military tensions that had been growing since royal troops first appeared in Massachusetts in October 1768. The soldiers were in Boston to keep order, but townspeople viewed them as potential oppressors, competitors for jobs, and threats to social mores. Brawls became common.

141. Done! But the time for talking about it has passed.
My next contribution goes to the rep who actually DOES something, instead of just talking about it.

Sounds like he's changing his tune.

I've seen him and spoken to him numerous times here in Detroit and he has never said that. He's only given the reasons that we can't impeach. Nice to know he's coming around.

157. Media has to report it more....but Bush's action yesterday is such a challenge
how much longer can he wait? Still the momentum has to build because the Bush Criminals will find some way to block Inherent Contempt since it hasn't been used recently. Then...they will have to Impeach.

CONYERS SAID "WE NEED TO HOLD MORE PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE FOR AIDING GEORGE BUSH & MR. CHENEY"

Nancy Pelosi has always eluded to this fact. Things are going to get interesting.

144. If he's talking like that, it's a fair bet that Nancy is setting the table
Or, if it would be too awkward for her to appear to be setting the table when she is next in line for the Oval Office after the Frat Boy and the Big Dick, she's letting Conyers do it for her.

In any case, impeachment is now on the table. We have put it there. We, the people.

161. You "don't see where he says anything about impeachment???"
Edited on Sat Jul-21-07 11:26 AM by Land Shark
He even spoke about so-called retroactive impeachment (impeachment after leaving office).

But I agree that with tentative or cynical reactions like yours, the intent or desire to pursue impeachment may never receive the public support of enough other reps and members of the public to actually happen successfully. It's pretty important for every one to SAY what it is that they really support. Impeachment, like any movement, feeds solely off of a growing public desire for something. Seeding doubt is very damaging to things like that.

THink of it this way: If conyers is for impeachment, he needs your support. On the other hand if he were in fact a short step away, he needs your support to get there, too. Instead you're posting radical doubts that stop you, and perhaps others, in their tracks, frozen into a position of tentativeness and non-support. Why not send a PM to the author of the OP to clarify such doubts?

164. impeach?
What radical doubts? Why call me names? i don't see it. If i am missing it, just show me. I write my letters, I call everyone, i march. I have given money to Conyers. I should not need to defend myself here. What I see is that he wants to use inherent contempt to get the people who support Bush and Cheney in their nefarious ways--underlings. If that is all that happens those people may indeed end up in prison, one hopes. Just give me the sentence that says he is going to join Kucinich's demand to impeach Cheney and and that he also intends to introduce a bill to impeach Bush. Or anything like that. I don't have the power to do that, he does. By the way, everyone i know says I am too idealistic for my own good. That is why these blogs and the interenet don't really do justice to those of us on it. What we say is so easily misunderstood and met with derision which is supposed to silence us. Like Gore, i believe in the marketplace of ideas, and i was hoping this was one.

By the way, i am not as blog savvy as you. I thought I was replying to the originator of the post and asking for better information. How do i do that if writing here is not the way?

173. Why would he do that? People at that level who perform great public
services by holding the most powerful to account, don't gain anything by blabbing about the details of their actions to all and sundry. On the contrary, they must keep their cards close to their chest, until it's appropriate to do otherwise.

Why is is that so many on here seem to think they're smarter and more courageous than Conyers? You just make people suspicious about your motives and agenda, rightly or wrongly.
