The focus on "Holy War" mentality
---

Seems to me that a lot of this talk of "jihad" and "Muslim extremists" and "Holy War" is manufactured.

Let me explain.

While yes I do believe that certain elements in both the Muslim And Christian faiths want to take over the world and have us be a part of their cult-ish mentality I also believe this radicalism is hyped up in our corporate media for a reason.
That reason is to distract us from the economic and political devastation that the western world has wrought on the middle east for centuries and in particular the last 100 years.

The "media" sensationalizes the radical religious aspects not as a symptom of our policies there, but as the cause.
This is a lie in my estimation.
All part of the dumbing down of America by the powers that be.

1. Denial is a big factor, too.
In Van Halen's video, Right Now, one stick figure walks up to another stick figure & pushes it to the ground. The text underneath reads, "Right now your country is doing what you think only other countries do."

A Brief History of U.S. Interventions: 1945 to the Present
by William Blum
Z magazine , June 1999

The engine of American foreign policy has been fueled not by a devotion to any kind of morality, but rather by the necessity to serve other imperatives, which can be summarized as follows:

* making the world safe for American corporations;
* enhancing the financial statements of defense contractors at home who have contributed generously to members of congress;
* preventing the rise of any society that might serve as a successful example of an alternative to the capitalist model;
* extending political and economic hegemony over as wide an area as possible, as befits a "great power."

This in the name of fighting a supposed moral crusade against what cold warriors convinced themselves, and the American people, was the existence of an evil International Communist Conspiracy, which in fact never existed, evil or not.
The United States carried out extremely serious interventions into more than 70 nations in this period.

3. Bin Laden made a comment about one of Blum's books.
Blum's book sales escalated wildly, but his college speaking engagements came to a complete halt. How chilling that we've regressed so far that our institutions of higher education would shun someone trying to shine light on the truth.

4. Well, Sure.
I'm reminded of David Cross' bit on Bush vs. Bin Laden.

"I don't think Bin Laden sent those planes over here because he hated freedom. I think he did it because of our support for Israel, and all our military bases in Saudi Arabia. You know why I think that? Because THAT'S WHAT HE FUCKING SAID! Are we a nation of six year olds? Answer: yes."

Also:

"If the terrorists truly hated freedom, then the Netherlands would be fucking dust. And so would Denmark and Sweden and Canada and New Zealand and every other country that's truly freer than we are."

However, that doesn't negate the fact that there truly ARE crazy religious whackos over there who are trying their level best to kill us, Osama bin Laden included. Our jackassery doesn't condone their jackassery.
