The odds are that Cheney will not survive the next two years
particularly because of his involvement in the Plame case. I can see Bush & Co. pushing him out the door and probably giving his health as the reason. So the question is who would Bush nominate for VP who can get confirmed by a Democartic congress and would that person then be the front-runner for the GOP nomination in '08? Frankly, being tied with the Chimp's administration, should be the kiss of death. But I think McCain would take it anyway since he's been kissing Bush-ass for so long.

1. Has McCain even opened an exploratory committee?
He seems to be WAY behind the curve in terms of announcing anything ... Wonder if he has an inkling this will happen, so why bother announcing that he's running.

4. McCain has hired Terry Nelson already -- assoc w Swiftboat Vet, anti-Ford "Call Me" Ad

same guy involved w Swiftboats and the sleazy Harold Ford "call me" ad. Will go find a link if I can.

ON EDIT:

John McCain's Hired Guns

(I know you probably meant this for dems, but what the heck)

Terry Nelson

<snip>

But besides Nelson's organizational skills, his easy-going manner is a cover for a down-and-dirty political infighter. Nelson was responsible for approving the highly criticized Republican ad against Harold Ford, Jr. that had a white woman asking the candidate to call her after meeting him at the Playboy mansion. The controversial ad was pulled after a week and a half, but not before it produced a turnaround in Ford's numbers from which he never fully recovered. He's been associated with the Tom DeLay scandal, and tangentially associated with the New Hampshire phone-jamming scheme to obstruct the Democrats' get-out-the-vote effort in 2002 and the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. And in a twist of the knife to Democratic dark-horse-wanna-be John Edwards, Nelson also represented Wal-mart in its push to repair its image. While Democrats may try to make hay out of Nelson's past, McCain's campaign, which was hit hard in 2000 by Nelson's kind of tactics, is smart to bring someone in who can fight the dirty fight if necessary.

6. I could see Bush doing this. nominate Condi whose ratings are high
and it would be a historic first--a woman VP and an African-American. This would temporarily take the media's mind off other matters and perhaps the publics as well.

he becomes a REpublican.

10. Plus, a GOP Governor would appoint the new Senator...
Not only do the get LIEberman as VP, but they also get control of the Senate 50-50 because Holy Joe will break the ties.

THE HORROR!!!!!!! I cannot even begin to think of this asshat as VP. I'd prefer Cheney: a total Dick instead of a two-faced weasel.

8. I think we need to speak out in advance against certain nominees
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 02:19 PM by terisan
I don't think certain potential nominees should be approved by a Democratic congress. no Lieberman, no Republican who has not spoken out against war. In fact I think Gore should be nominated and approved---he was probably elected president in 2000 and prevented from taking office by the 5 justices.

It is absurd for Bush in his current state of failure and scandal, and history of being appointed to the presidency plus the 2004 election debacle, to be nominating anyone who is not the choice of congress.

I know Bush doesn't care about the country and would enjoy a constitutional crisis but I would rather the office remain vacant.

If the situation were reversed, the right wing would already have been demanding that a Democratic vp step down and a Republican right winger be approved.

Let's remember that congress approved Ford for Nixon and one of his first acts was to pardon Nixon.....and a lot of Nixon and Ford people lived on to help create our current crisis. The Nixon pardon did not heal anything; it short-circuited justice.

At some point here the people have to lead and it has to happen before Congresspeople start burbling nonsense about healing, and agree to a dangerous nominee.

11. The Senate by simple majority...
Thus, Buch starts out with 49 GOP Senators. If he nominates LIEberman, Joe will vote for himself, thus 50 votes.

Then, you can be sure oone of the DINOS would vote for LIEberman (Ben Nelson, Mary landrieu, Evan Bayh).

Thus, Holy Joe replaces Dead-Eye Dick and Chimpy claims "Bi-Partisanship"
