Poll question: Would you choose Russ Feingold if he enters the race?
If the good Senator from WI decided to enter the race, would you support him over the group of Democrats running?

I saw him on MTP this morning, he was GREAT! and I just received this from him...

On 'Meet the Press' this morning, I announced that I will introduce two censure resolutions aimed at holding President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and other administration officials responsible for the destructive path down which they've taken our country. It's clear to me, and millions of Americans, that the time has come for accountability – on everything from the disastrous war in Iraq, to refusing, time and time again, to follow the rule of law. Members of Congress can no longer stand by and allow the White House to shred the Constitution, and thumb their noses at the American people.

1. No, I am not impressed by his Censure Bush proposal
Edited on Sun Jul-22-07 11:53 AM by MissWaverly
the only way that Bush and Cheney can be dealt with effectively is to impeach.
If they keep the current course, the president will become the sole effective
member of government with no oversight by the legislative branch and the judicial branch.
I am beginning to believe there will not even be a judicial branch but a kangaroo court.
There is serious damage being done to this country every day, I am losing patience
with those who are enabling Bush and Cheney to continue to hurt this country.

Even David Brooks says that censure is a meaningless gesture, and even he is not known
for his critical analysis.

8. The Senate cannot initiate impeachment proceedings, only the house
He is making a very strong statement that MOST of the other members are afraid to make

We are screwed in a big way, they are counting on winning by default in 2008. Doesn't that just make you proud, NOT

9. He could make a louder statement by announcing his
support of impeachment, and that he was meeting with his congressional counterparts to get them onboard.
Censure is meaningless theatre, I wouldn't mind but this has not been business as usual these
last 6 years. Serious things are wrong and the dems need to do their congressional duties
instead of just "what is the most effective strategy to fire up the base and get them
esp. (those internet) bloggers to empty their piggy banks into the 2008 campaigns."

14. Censure? Too little, too late.
I received an email from Feingold today, asking how I feel about censure, Basically, my response was that
I don't want these criminals getting a slap on the wrist. The only thing I want on their wrists are handcuffs.

44. Feingold has been pushing on this for years
One man is capable of bringing it up but not passing it. When are the rest of the government going to show similar courage. Most of them are years behind Feingold. He was almost the only voice against the patriot act - because as he said he actually read it. I like literacy in my representatives.

2. Feingold would strengthen an already-terrific Democratic field.
The Republicans are strapped with people who are corrupt, idiotic, dangerous, unstable, unelectable, and undesirable.

I'm not sure how Feingold feels about the presidency, but he'd make an excellent chief executive, IMO.

As jammed as the primary race might potentially be, I could see him jumping in, despite earlier comments about serving in the Senate instead.

I talk with folks from time to time who are drawn to the idea of a Gore-Feingold ticket.

If Feingold chooses not to run for president, let's put him in charge of the Department of Justice. Sure would be a gigantic change from the monster who's in charge of it right now.

but not the millions he'd need to run for president. So far Obama is the only one who seems to be able to do that. But Feingold is still in his early fifties so don't count him out of future runs. He is becoming more and more visible.

31. We really need to figure out a way to get big money out of our elections.
How many talented candidates do we lose that way? We wind up with a small pool of connected elites -- hardly the democracy we strive for. :(

34. Unless the Obama thing is a trend
I've never given money to candidates in my life until 2004. I don't know if I was ever asked. Now that things are more internet centered - its possible that more people will get involved in contributing. And if giving involves everyone- even if its just $50 a campaign cycle but everyone is doing it= that could make a big difference.

46. I agree -- up to a point. The net has made activism so much more
accessible.

But I think back to the days when my husband and I counted every cent to try to make it through the week. There's no way we could have given a nickel to any candidate during those days, no matter how much we'd have wished to do that. Hell, if I was careful, he could buy a pint on Saturday, no kidding.

We have to get publicly funded elections, or our "democracy" isn't really a democracy but a fire sale.

When I was a kid, the campaign news didn't center on how many millions X candidate had raised but instead, it was about what that runner said.

47. I agree. But up till now the Republicans have been against it.
At heart, I believe Republicans are stingy people who resent giving $20 or $50 to a candidate. They like having the corporations buy candidates. Small business owners fancy themselves to be little corporations.

At heart, I believe Democrats are more generous, even if they can only give a little. So I think Obama's campaign is going to change their minds. Repukes have no one with the kind of charisma that makes a crowd full of ordinary people pull out their wallets or checkbooks. He is getting more money than the Republican candidates- and if he wins the nomination, watch out. (I'm for Edwards, but I can see the Obama has something people really like.) If Republicans raise less money they may change their minds.

Boy, is that right!

Well, we have to work with what we have this cycle, and I'm glad Senator Obama is doing so well, truly. I'm more of a DK fan, but recognize that Obama is a very attractive candidate.

We're fortunate to have such deep field of attractive runners. The Thugs have no one. :toast:

26. Clark, Feingold, and Gore were always my top three choices
It is frustrating, to say the least, that none of them are current declared candidates. I believe in wishful thinking, but I also have a pragmatic streak. Of the three, Wes Clark is the one who has shown the most interest in running. He still says that he "thinks about it every day". I am becoming more discouraged about Gore, he is begining to convince me that he will not run in the primaries at the very least, and the odds of a brokered convention are remote.

For those who are not satisfied with the current progressive choices for one or more reasons, now might be a good time to find some way to encourage Wes Clark to enter the race. I have seen no indication from Russ Feingold that he is even open to considering it at this point.
