NEAT!!! Web page that lets you send a FAX to Conyers' office!
http://www.peaceandjustice.it/impeach/

Here's mine:

Dear Congressman Conyers,

My name is MLFerrell, I am a 25 year old graduate student at West Virginia University. My brother, Ryan, is preparing to deploy to Iraq for his second tour of duty. He has imperiled his life once for his nation. At this late juncture, his sacrifice is clearly no longer for the United States of America, but rather solely to assuage one man's ego, President (and I use that term loosely) George W. Bush.

I recently read that you plan to initiate impeachment proceedings against the President if you were able to marshal the support of three more Representatives. I IMPLORE you to begin the impeachment process immediately. The criminals in the Executive branch do not have any intention of obeying the hallowed rule of law. The ONLY remedy for their treasonous actions is removal from office, followed in short order by criminal proceedings.

Sir, you took a solemn oath to uphold the Constitution of these United States, and to defend it against "...all enemies, foreign and domestic." Is it not eminently clear that by any sane definition, President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and numerous other individuals in the employ of the Bush administration are domestic enemies of the U.S. Constitution, and the very rule of law itself?

It is time that the United States Congress exercise its DUTY to the American people and firmly establish that NO MAN IS ABOVE THE LAW. We citizens of these United States for generations have taken pride in the fact that our government has no monarchy, heridtary or otherwise.

President Bush's refusal to abide by the restrictions placed on his branch of government by the Constitution and innumerable Congressional directives with the force of law clearly indicates that he conceives of his role as more akin to a monarch (or dictator) than that of an executive with less than absolute power.

Some things are more important than politics, sir. Some things are more important than re-election prospects. Some things are more important than "trying to re-capture the White House". Impeaching, trying, and removing these traitors is more important than anything.

I will be watching and waiting, Congressman, and so will the rest of the world.

Do the right thing.

Respectfully,
MLFerrell

 I'm curious how your brother feels about going back; if he feels like you, I hope you show him this letter, and let him know we're working on it!

4. He wants to go back so that an 18 or 19 year old kid won't have to go.
He volunteered to learn how to do EOD (Explosive Ordinance disposal - defusing IEDs) and is going to Al-Anbar province (Western Iraq - VERY dangerous... though what part of that war-torn country ISN'T?) on August 6th.

He knows that * is ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag, and doesn't buy into any of the Rightist bullshit about fighting them over there so they don't invade Wal-Mart over here, he said, and I quote "I've been there. It sucks ass. But I've already seen the shit that keeps you up at night. If I go back, someone who hasn't been there might not have to go through what I did."

Noble, yes, but as I keep telling him, stupid as hell.

Oh well, as long as he comes back in one piece... ALIVE.

17. Yeah, my Mom is cool.
My Dad, on the other hand... He's not a bad guy, but he voted for * twice. Bitches constantly about the price of gas and all the money wasted in Iraq, and I constantly tell him, "You have nobody to blame but yourself. Why did you think it was a good idea to elect a man who had run every business he ever touched straight into the ground? Incompetent fool couldn't even run a goddamned baseball team and you thought that it'd be a good idea for him to run the country?"

Then I get called a "liberal from Academia" and I roll my eyes, lather, rinse, repeat...

In any case, thank you for your compliment. I'll pass it along to Ryan. I'll get to see him for about six hours on Aug. 5th. He's flying in from Wisconsin where he's doing his EOD training the night of the 4th, he'll be around for the 5th, and he's flying from Pittsburgh to Germany the morning of the 6th, and from Germany directly to Iraq. :(

19. Tell your dad that I think he's wonderful to have raised such good sons
but that he needs to stay away from Faux News. And if he doesn't know how already, teach him to use the internet so that he can differentiate between the propaganda & what's actually happening. (Make sure his heart is in good condition first.)

3. Here's mine:
I called my congressman, Jerry Nadler, this morning and asked his office to tell him to sign HR 333.

1. Republican obstructionism makes it clear nothing is going to be accomplished without impeachment.

2. There is no law if the law is not enforced. There is no constitution if the constitution is not respected.

3. I do not want the next president to enter office with all Bush's usurped powers intact and unchallenged. That is too great a temptation for anyone of any party.

Bush and Cheney insist that impeachment is the only remedy for their lawlessness. I'm forced to agree. They want it. Let them have it.

6. Done...
When the madness began, you said that Congress couldn't act until the people spoke up, that Congress' hands were tied until it heard from the people.

We've spoken up loud & clearly: we want accountability & punishment for this administration's long list of crimes. We do NOT want another Nixonian/Bushian administration, & that will happen if the Bush administration isn't stopped.

Impeachment is the only way to stop the crimes & to prevent future twisted above-the-law administrations.

As a long admirer of yours, I pay attention to what you say & do. You've heard from us, we've untied your hands, & we're pleading for you to put an end to the madness.

20. Thank you for setting this up!
From what I hear, Conyers' voice mail is full, so this is the only non-email way to voice your opinion quickly.

How are things in Rome? Probably a lot more relaxed than living in Hell's Maw, uh, I mean the U.S.
