This is an advance version of a slide-tape The Freedom Toast
did for the Louisiana state government and the New Orleans
city government, music by TFT. It probably won't ever be released
to the public, but it is here by permission from The Freedom Toast
for the DU:

(hope the link works!)

7. Thank you, DFW.
New Orleans is really a magical city. It's hard to explain the effect it has on a person unless you've experienced it firsthand. I spent the summer of '70 in the heart of the city (Royal Street) & it's a memory that I cherish.

17. I meant to reply to this earlier
I think that FEMA wold have probably
discontinued this guy's shelter and
survival rations if he had put on a
shirt with that slogan..besides, it's
not Jan. 21, 2009 yet. Who says ANY of
us will survive Bush?

11. Really nice...
...I've only been there once, years ago, it was really great. When Katrina happened, I dug up my old Arlo Guthrie version of "The City of New Orleans", made me cry every time. This one did too.

For those who have never heard of The Freedom Toast.

TFT was a project that grew out of some people who
are part of a gathering that takes place in Charleston,
South Carolina every New Year. It is primarily a group
that does musical satire mocking the right. It has done exactly
two songs that do not fit that mode. One of them, on their
"Song Along With The Republicans" album, got them some
screamingly evil responses by the extremist right ("When
Johnny Comes Rolling Home," clip found here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/freedomtoastrep
to hear most of it).

The other one was this one, which they did right after Katrina hit.
It was the first thing they ever recorded, and was more of a test
flight than anything else. Only after someone who saw their first
real video (The "Bush version" of "Home on the Range:")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7dPISoH6Ok&mode=related&search=
suggested they do something with "Spirit of New Orleans" did
they actually get busy with the idea. When it was suggested they
do it for Louisiana and New Orleans, this is what came out. The
TFT are all from the South, and have visited New Orleans several
times, and so the song was heartfelt.

I'm glad to hear that a few DUers thought so, too.

With all the other stuff going on today, Cindy Sheehan, Conyers,
the Wisconsin election fraud, etc., this isn't the most vital issue
of the day. But there's nothing wrong with a little uplifting
every now and then, either.
