AP Reporting a Vote on Contempt Citation Likely AFTER August Recess!
House Committee Approves Contempt Citation
By Paul Kiel - July 25, 2007, 12:16 PM
As expected the House Judiciary Committee approved citations of contempt against Harriet Miers and Josh Bolten in a vote just a few minutes ago. The vote was along party lines, 22-17. We'll have more from the committee's meeting shortly.
The AP reports, citing "a senior Democratic official," that "a vote by the full House would most likely happen after Congress' August recess."

20. Disappointing and frustrating. Don't see why that has to be. Reining
in a dangerous rogue administration should be an emergency. Reining in a highly politicized justice department which is investigating and trying people every day should be treated as an emergency.

Going through the statutory contempt process as quickly as we can so we can hit the inevitable roadblocks soon so we can then pursue inherent contempt or impeachment should be a priority.

This reminds me so much of the frustrations of the last six years, where token opposition is argued by some as a great victory and others argue that more should have been done (certification of Ohio electoral votes, judicial nominees, any number of objectionable bills, etc) and all the while the gears of this criminal administration keep turning exactly the way they want them to and dems are demonized by the GOP and pundits for even trying. Playing nice has no upside.

21. what harm will come by waiting for less than two weeks when Congress returns?
that period could be used by us to hit these republicans while they're back home with their constituents, instead of . . .

29. you're right. I still don't think it's such a big deal
use the time to pressure the republicans into an outside investigation because of the administration's conflict of interest, for instance

13. Not surprising.
There are only four days left in July. There's a 2-day period for comments, if I recall correctly. Then it has to get on the legislative calendar, which I'd imagine is probably full right now. The process is what the process is. They're not going to circumvent it.

16. They're "keeping their powder dry."
Bush only has 17 more months in office.

They are concerned how Fox News would portray it.

"What would it accomplish, any way?"

You didn't realize they passed a resolution regarding victims of a war over a half-century ago?

26. Actually if I were Miers, Bolten or Gonzo
I'd wan this resolved quickly and get my pardon from the Shrub. Recess is a long time for "unfortunate accidents" or "suicides" to happen to the primary players if Dick and Co. think the birds might sing.
