Documents Contradict Gonzales' Testimony
Edited on Wed Jul-25-07 07:04 PM by cal04
Documents show that eight congressional leaders were briefed about the Bush administration's terrorist surveillance program on the eve of its expiration in 2004, contradicting sworn Senate testimony this week by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

The documents, obtained by The Associated Press, come as senators consider whether a perjury investigation should be opened into conflicting accounts about the program and a dramatic March 2004 confrontation leading up to its potentially illegal reauthorization.

A Gonzales spokesman maintained Wednesday that the attorney general stands by his testimony.

At a heated Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday, Gonzales repeatedly testified that the issue at hand was not about the terrorist surveillance program, which allowed the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on suspects in the United States without receiving court approval.

I mean, he came across as so very honest. Maybe the documents are just confused.

Another Nichols interview:
http://www.ianmasters.org/left_coast.html

If you've never heard Ian Masters' shows I highly recommend him. He's very informed and gets excellent guests and interviews.

http://www.ianmasters.org is the main page with the show Background Briefing and the link above is his other show that runs right afterwards, Live from the Left Coast.

You can hear them live Sundays at 11am PT at www.kpfk.org, a Pacifica station. And you can hear the latest shows there too, they get them up faster than on Ian's site, and you can check out all their other shows too. Ian's site is a bit easier to navigate though.

I have to catch up as I was out of town and missed the last two.

23. The Senate confrontation
from yesterday put me in a good mood. Although I certainly wish things would go at a faster pace, I think that the AG did some very real harm to not only himself, but to the Cheney administration. A couple of years ago, I had noted this group had re-introduced the Huston Plan for domestic spying. I believe that it began to be shown yesterday that this is accurate.

I think Gonzo could mount a credible defense of mental incompetency.

Edit: cuz incompetency is not the same as incontinency. (Calling Sen. Vitter)

25. I think "The Americans with Disabilities Act" might come into play
Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which took effect July 26, 1992, prohibits private employers, state and local governments, employment agencies and labor unions from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities in job application procedures, hiring, firing, advancement, compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions and privileges of employment. An individual with a disability is a person who:

Has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities;
Has a record of such an impairment; or
Is regarded as having such an impairment.
A qualified employee or applicant with a disability is an individual who, with or without reasonable accommodation, can perform the essential functions of the job in question. Reasonable accommodation may include, but is not limited to:

Making existing facilities used by employees readily accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities.
Job restructuring, modifying work schedules, reassignment to a vacant position;
Acquiring or modifying equipment or devices, adjusting modifying examinations, training materials, or policies, and providing qualified readers or interpreters.

Which ended in either arrows or swords.
