An elderly man beaten unconscious by an assailant wielding a soda can awoke and shot the man during an attempted robbery, police said.

Willie Lee Hill, 93, told police he saw the robber while in his bedroom Wednesday night. Hill confronted the man and was struck at least 50 times, police said. He was knocked unconscious.

Covered in blood, Hill regained consciousness a short time later and pulled a .38-caliber handgun on his attacker. The suspect, Douglas B. Williams Jr., saw the gun and charged the man, who fired a bullet that struck Williams in the throat, police said.

"I got what I deserved," Williams, 24, told police when they arrived, officers said. Investigators reported finding, among other items, a Craftsman drill bit set, three pocket knives and two hearing aids inside his pockets.

Good for Mr. Willie Lee Hill. Get well soon. The punk Williams certainly did get what he deserved!

Maybe, but it's also fodder for people who don't think it's right to assault old people
to steal their fucking HEARING AIDS.

7. Guess the poor old guy should've just let the piece of crud
beat him to death. And maybe if the Doc and his family in CT had been armed it would've been a different outcome. I'm sure there are just as many instances of guns used for self-defense everyday as there are of your postings of them used for evil.

10. I'm just saying that...
I've heard many times from NRA RW types that we've got to have our guns because it's old defenseless people who need them because of bad people who break into their houses.

The man defended himself and I can't blame him for what he did. That robber could have killed him.

I just wondered if a story like this would be used to advocate for more guns and loosen controls on owning them. If I came across sounding harsh, I am sorry.

Attacking a 93 year-old man is the height of cowardice.

If he shot this asshole in the throat why is he not dead and how did he speak? Weird.
