Looking at the DU sidebar - help uninsured kids by smoking?
Saw the thing for Schip and got to wondering - are we depending on smokers to save our kids (via paying for uninsured kids from tobacco taxes)?

Has it really come to that here? Kick smokers' asses all day long, and then make them the savior of our kids?

Something is wrong with this picture :)

1. Well, its about as stupid as using gas tax to pay for transportation
infrastructure.... Infrastructure wants big suv's and wider roads

4. Cig taxes are SO easy to pass, whatever you say they're for.
Roughly 80% of people don't smoke. How hard is it to pass a tax that the majority of people won't have to pay? In my county, where smoking is disproportionately high among the underclass (which I think is typical everywhere), a cig tax was just passed to support arts institutions. So poor people are subsidizing the opera, ballet and symphony tickets of rich suburbanites. An openly regressive tax in a deep blue county and it fuckin' passed by a landslide. You just can't go wrong with this shit!

They banned OUTDOOR smoking on the grounds of the sports complex that was paid for by guess-what.
