Washington State Pharmacists Sue Over Morning-After Pill
Pharmacists sue over morning-after pill

By CURT WOODWARD, Associated Press Writer
Fri Jul 27, 12:59 AM ET

SEATTLE - Pharmacists have sued Washington state over a new regulation that requires them to sell emergency contraception, also known as the "morning-after pill." In a lawsuit filed in federal court Wednesday, a pharmacy owner and two pharmacists say the rule that took effect Thursday violates their civil rights by forcing them into choosing between "their livelihoods and their deeply held religious and moral beliefs."

"The stakes really couldn't be much higher," plaintiffs' attorney Kristen Waggoner said. The state ruled earlier this year that druggists who believe emergency contraceptives are tantamount to abortion cannot stand in the way of a patient's right to the drugs.

The state's Roman Catholic bishops and other opponents predicted a court challenge after the rule was adopted, saying the state was wrongly forcing pharmacists to administer medical treatments they consider immoral.

Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire, who brokered a compromise on the contraceptive rule and pressured the state Board of Pharmacy to adopt it, stood behind the regulation Thursday. "Gov. Gregoire feels the Pharmacy Board went through an extensive public process to come to their decision, and she supports them," spokesman Lars Erickson said.

*** - There is one simple solution. Find another kind of job where you're religious beliefs won't interfere. See how simple that was???

6. Administer medical treatments? Excuse me? They're pharmacists.
They sell drugs. They are not doctors. They are pharmacists.

Is there something I'm not understanding here?

11. Yeah, that's what I mean.
Sounds to me like the bishops are trying to weasel in doctor exemptions for withholding medical treatments for moral reasons. Little problem with that: pharmacists are not doctors to begin with. That's why doctors make prescriptions. Doctors administer treatment; pharmacists supply medicine. Refusing medicine on moral grounds sounds barbaric, and it should.

15. Well, they could always go back to biblical cures....
...since bible thumpers are so keen on Leviticus when going after gays, let's see what the cure for leprosy is:

Leviticus 14:49-53 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)

49 And he shall take to cleanse the house two birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop:
50 And he shall kill the one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water:

51 And he shall take the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the scarlet, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird, and in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times:

52 And he shall cleanse the house with the blood of the bird, and with the running water, and with the living bird, and with the cedar wood, and with the hyssop, and with the scarlet:

53 But he shall let go the living bird out of the city into the open fields, and make an atonement for the house: and it shall be clean.

Well I can see now that PETA would be dead on their asses if they go around killing little birdies. And then they'd have The Sierra Club suing their asses for cutting down helpless trees. I'm not sure what hyssop is, but its probably very tasty. I think they should ALL give it a try....

10. Viagra, Cyalis....
...birth control pills, penis pumps. The list could go on and on. When you think about the religious charge made by JC, they're suppose to be able to heal each other by touch. No poisons will hurt them and even snakes on a plane wouldn't be a problem. So why not eschew drugs and medical science altogether????

13. Someone needs to tell
that Catholic Bishop that slick-legging little boys doesn't create life. They want to fight something, fight Rome. Hell you could throw an accusation at almost any Bishop and it would stick. Fighting pharmacies when men in funny hats are paying off molestation claims, man they crack me up.

16. And when you think about it....
...if they'd have just kept it in their pants, they could've opened a whole chain of drug stores with $660,000,00.00. The thing is, they wrote that check and didn't even whimper. And all those good church members keep dropping those coins in the basket. Pathetic....
