I have a question this morning, where does the explosives come from that the Iraqi are using in the
ied's. seems to me like it would take quite a bit of explosives to do a tank in. Could it be from the purported 382 tons they marched on past in the run to Baghdad or are some unscrupulous characters suppling the explosives to the Iraqi people.

1. I don't know about the weapons
but the money they use to buy them comes from Saudi Arabia.

2. Most come internally.
It goes back to the biggest blunder of the war. We went in without enough troops to secure ammo dumps etc. It was easy pickings.

6. I remember seeing it on the teevee
it was like kids in a candy store. 382 tons would provide something like over a million and a half of 50 lb charges. WOW

18. Me thinks your math...
... is off a little.

382 tons times 2000 pounds in a ton = 764,000 pounds of explosives

764,000 divided by 50 pounds per charge = 15,280 individual charges

22. Why don't more people remember this? Because we're not SUPPOSED to remember it.
Certainly no one in the bush junta is going to bring it up, and our ever-obedient corporate media makes sure to NOT remind anyone.

4. The US Army once provided me with a lot of handy information on how to do in
a tank with an IED. Depending on the tank, a 25-40 lb. shaped charge will blow a pretty good hole in it. Of course that was 40 years ago and a different generation of tanks--and, having had little demand for the skill in civilian life, I really haven't kept up with later developments...

8. That 382 tons is the "official" number
Considering that there were literally thousands of tons in several unguarded dumps, who really knows. and no one knows how much was stashed ahead of time in small secret hideouts.

9. as my homegrown math shows that is a lot of charges
there was no intention of this 'war' ever being over as long as there are Iraqi people setting on the dicks oil

British Smash Into Iraqi Jail To Free 2 Detained Soldiers

By Ellen Knickmeyer and Jonathan Finer

BAGHDAD, Sept. 19 -- British armored vehicles backed by helicopter gunships burst through the walls of an Iraqi jail Monday in the southern city of Basra to free two British commandos detained earlier in the day by Iraqi police, witnesses and Iraqi officials said. The incident climaxed a confrontation between the two nominal allies that had sparked hours of gun battles and rioting in Basra's streets.

An Iraqi official said a half-dozen armored vehicles had smashed into the jail, the Reuters news agency reported. The provincial governor, Mohammed Walli, told news agencies that the British assault was "barbaric, savage and irresponsible." snip

Iraqi security officials on Monday variously accused the two Britons they detained of shooting at Iraqi forces or trying to plant explosives. Photographs of the two men in custody showed them in civilian clothes.

When British officials apparently sought to secure their release, riots erupted. Iraqi police cars circulated downtown, calling through loudspeakers for the public to help stop British forces from releasing the two. Heavy gunfire broke out and fighting raged for hours, as crowds swarmed British forces and set at least one armored vehicle on fire.

Witnesses said they saw Basra police exchanging fire with British forces. Sadr's Mahdi Army militia joined in the fighting late in the day, witnesses said. A British military spokesman, Darren Moss, denied that British troops were fighting Basra police.

24. When we disbanded Saddam's Army post attack.. We left ALL the Ammo dumps
just standing there. I'm sure that the "insurgents" had plenty of time and opportunity to help themselves.
