Poll question: Scooter Libby: What's his motivation?
Scooter Libby seems to be turning on the White House. Is he doing so only to save his ass (with no hard feelings towards the Bush Admin) or is he doing so to save his ass AND to slash at the Bush Admin's jugular?

5. Hell hath no fury like a syncopative lackey scorned...
I think he's finally put two-and-two together and realized that they're quite content leaving him twisting in the breeze. He'll sing like a canary, and name names, to save his hide.

16. No kidding, except Brownie was a low-level flunky.
He got his plum assignment, a grip-and-grin photo with Dubya...and then went off to his date with destiny as an incompetent boob.

Libby knows where the bodies were buried. This could be good.

6. Damn good question.

What do you think? I lean towards option A. He's doing what must be done to cause the least damage to himself or the Bushists.

11. I'm leaning toward Option A, too.
You know how I like to tell little stories...well, here's a little story. :)

When I was a senior in high school, much to my astonishment, my best friend's father was arrested in Texas with a plane-load of cocaine.

Truth came out (to those of us who were close friends with the family) that he had made the trip to Texas to purchase the coke for a very respected, rich hometown businessman. A little deal was made. My BF's father was given the latitude to do what he needed to do to defend himself once on trial, AS LONG as he didn't reveal the name of the man for whom he bought the coke. And that's what he did.

He did a year-long stint in federal prison, and when he came out, he was rewarded richly by the wealthy businessman. And I do mean rewarded handsomely. As in MILLIONS of dollars for keeping the businessman's name out of the trial and out of print. He has never worked a day since he came out of prison, and his financial windfall has provided not only for himself, but also for his ex-wife and two children (and their children), all of whom built new homes on vast acreage, always drive new cars, wear the finest clothes--and none of them work (they're all assholes, to be frank, except for the son, who works a minimum wage job just so he can have something to do). My BF's father had money before he went to prison, but he had nowhere near the wealth for all of his offspring and offspring's offspring to live the highlife as they do.

Now, thanks for reading this far, if you did, BurtWorm. What I think is this. I think that Scooter will probably make a show of defending himself, but I don't think that he's going to roll on the Bushites. I think that a deal has already been struck. If he does the time while keeping the greatest secrets to himself (not divulging the truly destuctive stuff), he may do a little time, but he's already received a promise of a presidential pardon, and he'll definitely receive some tangible (or maybe intangible) something for his loyalty.

Having said this, I'd like nothing better than to see Libby go Harper Valley PTA on their asses, though. Just like I'd loved to have seen my best friend's father turn on the rich bastard who funded his little jaunt to Texas.

But my BF's father's "sponsor" is still atop the heap in town. He's still an economic force with high social standing--a "town father" so to speak.

I wonder where the Bush Admin will land after this trial. It's pretty much up to Scooter at this point, don't you think?

PS: And yes, I think it is up to Scooter. I suspect he's getting a lot of help to make sure it turns out "all right."

15. The bad thing was...
after he came home from prison, his phones were tapped, and his daughter and I often found ourselves followed (in her spanking new RX7) by "men in black."

We used to joke on the phone about the coke we had hidden in the rims of her car. We were stupid, young, and cocky. We could have gotten in a lot of trouble over that, and my Baptist deacon Daddy wouldn't have been happy.

:D

10. From evidence already presented, it seems Scooter was already
upset at being sacrificed to save Rove. Now Scoot is out of a job, and Rove is still in the White House. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to believe that Rove's ass is grass right now and Scoot is on the riding lawnmower.

His cronies have not protected him, they have left him out there to defend himself. Only time will tell if he buries the hatchet or not, and in whose head it's buried!
