Our money, our bridges, our LIVES!
We work hard, pay our taxes, and expect the money we put into the system to do certain things. Like maintain our roads and utilities to keep us safe and our children safe. The anti-tax forces who work against this process are gambling with our lives every time they push their agenda onto the ballot. This not only could happen where you live, it WILL happen where you live if the money isn't spent to make sure your roads are safe.

This is an example of your tax breaks at work. Does a couple hundred more dollars in your pocket make up for watching a bridge crumble beneath your wheels? Or spending several hours trying to contact loved ones by phone to make sure they're okay?

No, it doesn't.

The Republicans are siphoning badly needed money from our infrastructure to prop up their already rich friends and contributors, and it is the rest of us who are paying the real costs.

This has to stop. And it has to stop NOW.

ODOT: 1 In 4 Ohio Bridges Structurally Insufficient

    POSTED: 12:32 pm EDT August 2, 2007
    UPDATED: 2:22 pm EDT August 2, 2007

CLEVELAND -- Wednesday evening's tragic bridge collapse in Minneapolis made many people wonder about the structural soundness of bridges in Ohio.

NewsChannel5 investigator Ron Regan found out from the Ohio Department of Transportation that one in four bridges in Ohio are structurally insufficient, and 643 of the state's bridges were built in 1905 or earlier.

Regan also learned that Ohio has more bridges than any other state in the country except for Texas, and the state has more than 42,000 highway bridges.

In Ohio's District 12, which includes greater Cleveland, there are 900 structures that ODOT is responsible for inspecting and maintaining, 310 of which are over water.

The I-90 bridge over the Grand River in Lake County is an arch bridge similar to the one in Minneapolis -- and so is Cleveland's Innerbelt Bridge, which was built in 1959 and is a major artery for the city of Cleveland. ...
