THE MSM couldn't wait to tout the good news about how few American lives were wasted in Iraq last month. They couldn't even wait until the numbers, which alway lag by several days, were finally reported. Somehow 78 Americans dying in one month in an illegal war is someone's idea of good news. As of today, the U.S. fatalities for July was 81, equaling the February and March totals. The overall coalition toll of 90 is the fourth worst of this year and the coalition count will likely pass 4,000 sometime in August.
Several DU Posters and media watchdogs also picked up on the not so subtle numbers game that the pentagon was playing with these tragic losses.
"For two days, the press has touted the notion that July was an encouraging month for the U.S. in Iraq, partly because American deaths declined from previous months this year. Maybe this meant the surge was working?
Closer (but usually ignored) analysis shows something else, however.
Actually, the number of fatalities made it the deadliest July yet for the U.S. side."

Amazingly they could not be persuaded to lower the flag to half staff when one of this week's fatalities was one of our own. Maybe they just didn't get the word.
