Electronic credit card theft
My friend had his card information stolen and was called by the card carrier when contributions to Muslim charities appeared on his card. He was told that if he used a card reader (e.g. at a gas station), a card can be inserted that will read and store his data for subsequent use by the thief. I was struck by the fact that the card company called him the same day to verify his donations. Has anyone else heard of this scam?

Mobsters would go around to various merchants and take their credit card readers.

2. In this case, they simply insert some kind of smart card
that can retrieve the data from the last card used at the pump. My friend asked the card company how to prevent this and was told not to use his card to buy gas.

3. Instead of inserting it in the machine, couldn't the go into the office
and have it run there.
