"democratic-led congress"
be sure you note that in news reports of the FISA bill recently passed.

everywhere I am now seeing "democratic-led congress" when they capitulate to smirk's demands.

2. Challenge them how and on what?
It is a Democratic-led Congress and they have given Bush much of what he wants. What would you "challenge" the media on in this instance?

5. I agree - Democratic Led Congress seems accurate
I want to challange the Media when they are shading the truth - like saying those two fucks from the Brookings institute are long time critics of the Iraq War.

7. Correct. There is no end to US media distortion of the truth, but in
this particular case "democratic-led" appears accurate. The example you give is just the kind of slight of hand that "our" media has grown so expert at, but this "congress" thing? I don't see it...

3. The media, like Amy Goodman? She's discussing this today.
What is the counter argument when people point out this a "democratic-led Congress"?

4. That's what I would like to know.
If it isn't a "democratic-led congress", then who is leading it?

6. you have put it in a different context than the one I object to
Edited on Mon Aug-06-07 10:56 AM by bigtree
the media is obviously trying to portray the coup by Bush and his republican and Democrat enablers on the spy bill as a Democratic-led effort. I think it was incompetence by the leadership more than it was complicity. But it's obvious what image the headline is meant to portray. No distinctions, no nuance, no accurate impression. The obvious implication is that 'Democrats' passed the legislation. *It was a majority of republicans who voted for the rag, enabled by a minority of our own legislators.

8. Now I see what you mean. The Republicans have it both ways.
If the Dems don't vote with them, they are unpatriotic or some negative slur.

If they do vote with them, they get pre-emptively tarred - "You did it, too."

11. How did the f__king idiots think it was going to be presented by the corporate media?
I really don't think the Dem scum that voted for this could possibly be stupid enough to think that this would be politically advantageous for Democratic party--and the values and positions they pretend to represent.

Their only concern is to keep in favor with their corporate fascist backers at all costs--continuing to lie to the voters every step of the way!
