If you plan to head out to Lake Winnebago anytime soon, health leaders want you to be careful. They say the recent bloom of toxic blue-green algae on the lake could cause illnesses to people and animals through skin contact, swallowing lake water or inhaling the stuff. DNR leaders say the blue-green algae bloom is different from the normal green algae that are common to the lake. The toxic algae looks like a thick green or bluish-green slime, and often smells like sewage when it decomposes after piling on the shore.)

probably because of zebra mussels. have the same algae on lakje mich and yes, it DO stank!
