Do they have to clap for Chimp tonight?
Can they all wear black and turn their backs?

Can they refuse to let their hands move.

Do they have to smile/shake his slimy hand as he makes his royal entrance?

1. YES
Whether you agree or disagree with a President you HAVE to show respect for the office.. Repubs despite thier hate for Clinton DID show respect for the office. If i was a Dem congressperson i WOULD clap and show respect. That does not mean i "Agree".

10. Welcome to DU...
...I agree with the respect for the office bit, however I would love to see the headline tomorrow saying, "Presidents proposals greeted with PERFUNCTORY applause."

26. Respect?
I think a democratically elected President deserves our respect.
...which is why I wouldn't clap for Commander Bunnypants.

Seriously, though, no standing o's for sure, or perhaps loud cheers at points in the speech that weren't designed as applause lines, such as if Dumbya says "America needs stronger intelligence."

Something like that.

Another approach would be the British Parliament "slow clap," which telegraphs contempt without utter silence.

2. They can do what they want, but they will clap.
It won't be rooting-cheering. It'll be sedated applause.

It'd be great if they turned their backs, but that'd be a bit on the pissy side.

5. Absolutely Not!
But it will be interesting to see who is stupid enough to try and get the photo op with Gerogie Boy. I wonder if Lieberman will be puckering up for tonights little Kabuki Dance.
Hey you know what would be really funny is if a congressperson had a paper bag with them and just as Bush is making his way down the aisle he/she puts the bag over his/her head and stands beside Funny little fool! The unkown Politician greets the president!

37. .
When he says something stupid, lies or when he starts with the usual "Terra, terra!", they should look at each other, clap a few times out of "respect for the office" and shake their heads as if he has lost his mind. That would be a picture...
