There was a VERY SCARY speaker on cspan this morning
talking to a group of young Pubs. His name was Deroy Murdock, a columnist. He was talking about how bad it would be if the Dems actually managed to push through Gov't controlled health care! The scary part, to, was when he asked several qauestions.

"If Hillary had been successful back in the 90's and gotten the health care she wanted, you know who would be in charge of YOUR health care right now? GEORGE BUSH!"

"The only way to keep a national health care program going would be to have a PERMANENT Democratic President, and a PERMANENT Democratic majority in Congress! I'm sure the Dems would LOVE THAT, but it's just not going to happen!"

Here's a link to wiki's info on Deron Murdock and his RE creds.

I only heard about 5 minutes of his speach, but it sure got me thinking. What IF we did finally get NHC, and some idiot like Shrub got elected? You KNOW he'd try to do to it what Shrub is trying to do to SS!

1. The guy is FULL of SHIT!
Did you happen to see Sicko? Once a country gets universal coverage, they would never go back. Ask any Canadian, Brit, French person and they'll tell you that there would be a bloody revolution if the government ever tried to revert back to a for-profit healthcare plan. It would never happen. I am a Canadian living in the U.S. so I have at least some knowledge of how Canadians feel.

2. Yes I agree, but this is the kind of talk the Pubs are using to convince
people they're right, and I have to admit, I'd be worried ...am worried, about ANY program managed under this admin!

4. I Think This is The Point
I think the point is that a President like Bush could mismanage a National Health Care System to the point that it could really damage people's health.

8. They would do exactly what they have done with Katrina, tried but failed to do with Social Security
and Medicare: defund the program to the extent that people don't like it any more. Didn't they try that in the UK under the Thatcher Administration?

So the guy's right in a perverted sort of way. The only way we can keep a program that was Congressional created strong is to keep it fully funded and we'll need a strongly Democratic Congress to do that.

If we can stay in power after we get Universal Health Care for at least 10 years, I think the American people will resist the Republicans siren song. Most people can stand the Republicans any more as it is...

3. I Know DeRoy Murdock. I Met Him in College
I was going to American U, while he was at Georgetown. I use to pal around with this right wing nut case, Todd Hansen, who actually a kind of cool guy to know. He was just a right wing psycho as all. Any way, Todd took me over to G'Town and I met Deroy in his dorm.

He's pretty harmless. Typical Black Republican. Here's the kicker to the story. After Todd and I left Deroy's room, we were in the car when this huge shadow came over us. We looked up, and it was Patrick Ewing. So, I met Deroy and Patrick Ewing on the same day.

5. That's an argument against any government program
Major or minor. By that logic, if the Dems get control after the next election, they should do nothing at all about anything.

7. if Clinton assumes the same powers
which bush has amassed and congress has failed to curb - yes, she could very well do it via executive order - who will stop her? the roll-over dems or the rubberstamping republicans

9. Bush hasn't succeeded in eliminating Social Security.
It wouldn't be easy for a Republican President to turn back the clock on national health care.

Where they have already tried and failed.

14. "Try" being the operative word.
Social Security will survive George Bush. Whether the rest of us will is an open question.

16. So, he thinks that for profit corporations controlling what kind of
health care we receive is preferred to pawns of for profit corporations controlling our health care? Once you get rid of corporate control the ones pulling the strings on the issue will be US.
