who else works with a bunch of clueless Neo-cons?
I just started a new job, where it seems like EVERYONE is a neocon-talking about "don't ask, don't tell",and other topics. They have no investment in this war.Do you speak up at your work?I use my local paper as my catharthis. How do you seriously deal with these people?

1. Well Don't ask, don't tell is the
Official policy of the United states military, so why is it bad if they mention it???

I have a personal investment in the war, myself, and I talk about Don't ask Don't tell all the time.......

Sorry, just don't see your point..........

5. I have a personal investment,as well.
I see gay co-workers keep their mouths shut.I see soldier's moms keep their mouths shut, even though their kids have served 2 deployments plus.My point is-how do you deal with being the minority at work?I'm curious.

4. I don't talk politics in the workplace....
...and when I was a supervisor I discouraged it on the crew. Work is about getting things done, and in this politically charged atmosphere I found it counterproductive to have guys arguing about politics. Maybe it works in some settings...

I tended to skip it at work with the other supervisors, but put my energy into supporting groups which could have an impact.

Just my thing...

8. Well then...try to keep it civil, and strive to keep the emotional level down...
..."a soft answer turneth away wrath"...I have found it to be true on more than one occasion. Still...ya' gotta' stand yer ground...

7. It's common knowledge that my views vary greatly from most of my coworkers
I don't like it when people get into inflammatory discussions at work and usually put a stop to them pretty fast. I'm fortunate to be in a position where I can do such. I've been the minority before when I didn't have such a position and I explained that I didn't agree with their personal views and would appreciate it if they didn't discuss such topics while we were at work. Honestly, all it did was make the situation worse.

I guess what I'm saying is all I have to offer here is empathy, but no real solutions.

11. I once worked for a boss...
...of the Assembly of God variety who made it plain that the whole crew should gather for prayer prior to work...voluntary..."of course"...he used to hassle me about it because I was (am) a Christian but refused to join in and made it clear to the others that they didn't have to join in either. We went round and round about the uselessness of "compulsory prayer" and issues regarding Church/State separation...talk about uncomfortable...still, sometimes ya' gotta' take a stand.

13. Well...maybe you can try to get them to respect your right to your views...
...and your right not to have to defend them in the workplace. Try to focus on enjoying your son's games, and remind yourself that that is why you changed jobs and you did a good thing by doing that!

Sometimes it actually helps to practice some visualization. When I worked for a particularly rude and abrasive boss early on in my career I would just picture his words as so much water running over a smooth stone (my head)...bizarre as it sounds it actually worked with some practice. Which is to say, it helped me keep the heavy emotion out of my responses, which is where things get ratcheted up. It also gave me a sense of greater control and put the kabosh on the feeling of being a victim.

:)

I have never understood that relationship. The female docs I work with are compassionate. The male docs I work with are assholes. The nurses act like fucking brainless ho's.I have more respect for prostitutes. At least they are what they represent.

14. Many male doctors are bred in Med School...
...to have an unhealthy regard for their own importance as humans; and many are known to treat the nursing staff poorly.

My wife has her BSN...I am not unfamiliar with whay you say...

15. I have a woman at work who passes around these gop email spams
all the time. There is nothing factual about them at all just repub ranting and anger. Yet she presents them as proof of the wonderful way * and the gop are handling things. This is person with 2 Master's degrees with all the critical thinking skills of a Jr. High dropout.

the neocons speak up. I'm one of the few dems that is not afraid to speak up! That's how I deal with the cons, I tell them the truth.
