2. "Think of what it is doing to Bush."
Yeah, poor Bush. He must be suffering so much more than all those innocent Iraqis over there who have done nothing wrong at all.

This guy makes me sick. Who made him a reverend anyway?

3. Oh please. This man needs to stfu.
Wasn't he the one whose kids were fighting over where to lay his dead body when he dies, so they could make money selling tickets to go see the grave? (Or something like that).

13. Billy Graham
I always found the man to be above reproach. Yes, he has always been a friend to presidents, but in a sea of evangelical nuts, he has always stood as a man of principle. True, this worry about Bush seems really bizarre. I'd rather see the same concern for the poor Iraquis who have have killed maimed, or driven from what used to be their homes in a war that never should have been. In Graham's defense: he is very old and his wife just died. Give the old guy a break.

15. Give the guy a break? A man with his profile and his 'reputation' for
decency and integrity covering for a man who's name will be listed right up there with all the other murderous despots?

Who the hell deserves a break here? A man who's made MILLIONS on 'religion' or the people who are dying?

17. isn't Graham the one who brought * to the lord?
we'd have been better off if president lyme disease remained an unchurched alcoholic.

THIS IS ALL YOUR DOING, BILLY GRAHAM!

Who cares what it does to him. I care what it's doing to everyone else. If it really did anything to bush, I would probably celebrate.

9. Yes, it's tough on George.
That's why he needs a vacation. Meanwhile our trOops burn in Baghdad fighting enemies and friends with no break in sight. Guess I'll go out and put another sticker on my SUV...to signify my support for their sacrifice. It's the least I can do.

10. Poor George.
Suffering right now on the Maine coast. Probably hasn't caught a fish all morning.
*sigh*
I think it's time for Rev Graham to hang up his collar. The depression has turned to delusion.

14. Rev Graham, Bush's personal predicament is the least of our worries
He broke us, now he needs to fix us; but he's too stubborn and arrogant to listen to advice from anyone who has the audicity to have a different opinion than his own. He sorely needs for someone to tell him NO every so often.
He's not a child, he just acts like one, or rather a spoiled brat!!!:P :P :P :nopity:
He knows nothing beyond bad-mouthing the Democratic Party! and the media helps him all the way.

16. How many hundreds of thousands would have to die...
...for him to be very depressed, or even a little bit angry at the president who started it all?

On what planet does Graham live, where events of this magnitude affect him so little?

28. Billy said about Iraq fatalities that "everyone dies sometime anyway"
Billy has failed to show much concern for the suffering and deaths caused by Bush's invasion of Iraq. That was evident from the interview I saw him give a year or two ago where he was asked about whether the Iraq war was a mistaken tragedy and his response was a statement about how we all die eventually, implying that the deaths were not all that tragic. He probably sanctions the war as being OK as part of God's will enfolding for the Middle East.

I don't get the whole Billy Graham thing. How could all those presidents buy into his crap? They act like they think the guy is some kind of profit. He just seems like a snake oil salesman to me. Albeit very successful but snake oil none the less.

The Political Confessions of Billy Graham
Political Wire got an advance look at an excerpt from The Preacher and the Presidents: Billy Graham in the White House by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy that will run in Time magazine on Friday. Graham has had a relationship with 11 U.S. presidents over the last 60 years.

Key highlights:

On presidents' regrets: "Every president I think I’ve ever known, except Truman, has thought they didn’t quite get what they wanted done. And toward the end of their administration, they were disappointed and wished they’d done some things differently."

On his role in politics: “I was aware of the risk at all times, political risk. Politics has always been ugly to me and yet I accept that as a fact of life. The emphasis I tried to leave was love, not for myself, my own love for them, but that they need to have love for the people who were opposed to them."

On Iraq: "I'm getting a little depressed about Iraq... Think of what it is doing to Bush. There doesn’t seem to be any way out."

On Sen. Hillary Clinton: "I keep up with her. I think a lot of Hillary."

29. Billy Graham is a snakeoil salesman like all religious leaders
Like all the rest, he's selling the gullible masses -- and their stupid leaders -- on irrational thought and magical thinking, and laughing all the way to the bank. I'm sick of it.
