Elusive first lady sets tongues wagging in France

PARIS (Reuters) - Capricious, mercurial or just unlucky? The failure of France's first lady to show up to lunch with U.S. President George W. Bush has once again raised questions about Cecilia Sarkozy's character.

President Nicolas Sarkozy unexpectedly arrived alone for the informal gathering at a Bush family compound in Maine on Saturday, near the luxury lakeside residence where the French leader and his wife are spending their holidays.

Sarkozy said his wife was suffering from a severe sore throat and could not make the journey, but the fact Cecilia was spotted shopping with friends on both Friday and Sunday raised eyebrows back home.

"Cecilia has set a new record for making a swift recovery," a news reader said dryly on France Inter radio on Monday.

She's married to a right wing nut but she seems pretty quirky herself.

the wimp of 9/11. The Hekuva failure of Katrina. The bogus blowhard of Freedom Fries.

Who -- with integrity -- could make nice with the corrupt republicon Homelander from Connecticut: Commander AWOL.

6. "I don't see myself as a first lady."
"It bores me. I'm not politically correct," she told an interviewer two years ago.

--------

Good for her. Better that than the Stepford Wife we've got.

3. Sarkozy has to
it's his job. His wife should be free to choose who she breaks bread with and evidently it's not Chimpy McPretzeldent. Good for her.

7. Why should the French criticize what their First Lady does?
They knew before they voted her husband in as President.

She rarely campaigned for him.

She didn't vote in the run-off ballot.

8. I'd get a sore throat real
quick too if it meant I didn't have to meet with the puppet-shite ruler of the US.

9. Good for her. I'd do anything to get out of a social invitation from
the Bush Crime Family short of slitting my wrists, and even that option would be on the table.

10. Yet she's the one Sarko dispatches
to pick up released hostages. While she may not be a towering stateswoman, that not a job confided to utter nincompoops.

Not turning up for lunch with the Bushies may not have been in line with accepted practice, but it's not a crime, and people should leave her be.

11. Anything will get wags going in France
Recall the comments over Sarkozy jogging, and how "un French" that was? Their media is worse than ours in many ways

13. Ah geez another woman with an independent mind! No wonder she does want to eat with the queen of
the Stepford wives.

I'll bet she would have gotten along wonderfully with Teresa Hines Kerry

14. The kids didn't go either
They stayed home with sick Cécilia who called Laura and said she and the kids wouldn't be coming. The article forgot to report that.

Keep in mind that the Cécilia Sarkozy did not vote in the election that made her husband president. They had been estranged up until then.

15. Their media is probably not much different than ours
The people probably don't care that she blows off the Bushes tacky lunch, more likely they are laughing about it too. The r/w media on the other hand would be trying to wind everyone up.
