I know they are going to try and "fix" it, but can you imagine how scared they will be when they pile into this thing to try and return? I would be having some serious second thoughts right about now..

1. If NASA told me it was safe, I would trust them.
NASA doesn't want to lose the astronauts anymore than the astronauts want to die.

3. Even with the gouge it may be safer to stick with the routine
May they all return safely.

5. "...can you imagine how scared they will be...."
Astronauts don't scare easily. They may be aware of the danger, but it will not affect their judgment or composure.

7. Hahaha.. The Russians have a reliable contingency craft
I might be tempted to ask to use it.. "Hey Ivan, can we borrow your rocket"?

8. I'm certain I heard that NASA has a contingency
plan to send out a rescue space ship. It would take a few months to get to them, though. But it beats burning up to death at re-entry.

10. Is there enough food, water, & oxygen
in the Space Station for an unplanned stay of several months?

the shuttle on the last mission....lets just hope they can successfully repair this problem...they've trained for this.... I believe they will be successful this time too....

of the mission commander to refuse if he thinks it is unsafe. This duty is etched in stone in all pilots from their first solo flight. The commander has the final authority.

13. I would. I would sit on the space station and wait for some other ship
to come pick me up. But some other shuttle had damage and landed safely. So there is hope.
