I do this post -
Middle of June the Turks blasted with artillery maybe 7 or 8 different villages on the Turkey/Kurd front. Maybe you remember. Week ago last Sunday they opened again - literally against some famers fields in the middle of nowhere - and then they followed thru - and they shot 350 special ops guys into Kurdistan. Did any you guys see that?? -

Cause I didn't see any of this on CNN - you had to read and confirm the Turkish and then the Kurdistan press to get any of this.

There are no words to convey just how serious this really is.

It is not just that Turkey might move to intercept the Referendum in December - they will - or maybe they started to do that -

But there are maybe 5 million people trying to annex about 70% of the Iraqi oil fields into their "autonomous" region. And the whole Turkish army standing to their north and all the Arab peoples standing to the south in oppositon - Including peoples that are just there to screw with us.

And we have so many kids caught in the middle of this power play. And that is exactly what it is.

In September of 1939 Germany invaded Poland - and for almost a year it was very quiet - it was called the quiet war. Whatever the historians call it. We cannot afford that now - Weapons can destroy cities in less than an hour - and EVERY SINGLE nation has a vested interest at this point.

This is no war of aggression at this point - it is a war of provication - and the consequences are very dire.

This has to stop now.

Joe

1. "whatever the historians call it."
The historians often refer to the year following September 1941 as the invasions of Finland, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, France, the evacuation of Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain, and so on and so forth.

2. War starts 9/39 - first offensive ground action not for a year -
It is that time - the quiet time - and it has name. Then Hitler rolled over the low countries.

It was a delayed reaction.

4. And so you know - the Battle of Britan - was in the summer of
1940 - The Germans had the counter op - Sea lion - to follow -the invasion of England.

They almost pulled it off.

It was so close - what 200 fighter planes away from happening??

It has a lot to do with why I think England was SO brave.

Cause god knows those RAF pilot showed the american pilots - not a lot of respect.

I know for a fact.

6. Yes. About ten months after the invasion of Poland.
Not sure what your point is.

"Cause god knows those RAF pilot showed the american pilots - not a lot of respect."

I'd say the RAF pilots earned the right.

7. Cause there is a quiet time to everything -
It is not that the RAF pilots weren't great - they were great - but they didn't kill the Luftwafe either - did they?? They were just rude.

It is just that it seems there is an inflection point in great wars - guns of August kind of thing - and we are right there.

8. Um, what?
"but they didn't kill the Luftwafe either - did they??"

They killed enough Luftwaffe to keep the Germans out of Britain.

Again, where are you getting this stuff?

11. In March of 45 and then finally on April 16, 1945 -
WE killed the German airforce - Americans - in Jugs and Mustangs and Lightnings - and the revivsed P-40s -
We killed them.
Look, the RAF they did a great thing for humanity - they held on. That was a lot.
But buddy - we were the hunter killers - and we lit them up - over Frankfort to Berlin - those were our guys.

My dad was one - but my unoffical "uncles" - so were they -

The RAF they were rude to our guys - doesn't mean they were not good fighter pilots.

They were just rude -

And don't underestimate the Americans in the fight either -

Years ago I dated a girl whose father flew 190s over Frankfort. They were scared to death of the american pilots there. I know because one time my father and her father met - and god knows they probably both killed each others friends over that city. They were scared to death of each other - was one hell of a "meeting" - Guess you had to be there - there was a strange mutual respect.

They got a long great.

Joe

The Turks have been shelling northern Iraq off and on since 1991.........

The Turks have been sending SF troops for their summer training cycles into N. Iraq since 2000......

We've been over this a dozen times and you still spam this crap on here......People have posted links from the turkish media showing how common this is and you keep spamming, people posted pics from 4 years ago of Turkish troops in N. Iraq and still you spam this crap.......

14. It's a bigger deal than you'd like us to believe sanskritty
It wouldn't be happening if the U.S. told the Turks to knock it the fuck off. But we don't. And that's important. It signals that we may be prepared to once again sell the Kurds down the river.

Even if these are just pressure tactics - they reflect deeper strategic issues that CNN doesn't even scratch the surface of. The OP is right - maybe not that invasion is imminent - but certainly that we get jack shit about any of this from our media. And we deserve better with our boys over there.

17. Even if it's common
and happens all the time - then THAT is news. How many Americans know about THAT?

How many even understand the dynamic between the Kurds and Turkey and the U.S.? And Isreal for that matter? And the History? And what it could all ultimately mean in terms of escalation of this conflict? Not many I'd wager. Even here on DU. And the reason is that the MSM has decided that NONE of that is news.

Since you seem to agree, maybe you can explain why that is?

15. Could this be Quid pro quo?
The Turks let the coalition use their country for air strikes,

... and a couple of years later they are allowed to take the Kurds
