This was written by my daughter, Molly (age 15). She said it represented her thoughts and feelings about the Iraq invasion...
Today was a sad day. The rain washed everything pretty away. It tore off the pink petals, Turned the ground brown. The fog settled in dark allies. Everything cold and gray. Small kittens drowning in the rushing water. Their mothers crying out in pain. The lightning setting a church on fire. The stained glass burning in the flames. Trees burnt to ash. Lost toys get stomped on by people running. The sun hidden by thick dreary clouds, The thunder makes the little kids cry. A starving dog Lays in the street, To sick to move. The grass torn up, The wind blowing so hard That it makes branches fall to the ground. The rainbow and illusion of happier times. Families scream As black vultures descend on forgotten bodies. Pecking away in hate. The unkind ways we treat our equals. All the lies come back to haunt us. To live in a world where love forgot. We can’t go back to change what we did wrong. We can’t even hope to see better days. They were buried years ago. Along with the sun. The rain used to be pretty, Now it only reminds us Of the war we waged in greed. So desolate now. Murderers run wild. What did we want so badly that we would sacrifice all we had for nothing? I wish we could turn back time, But reality is outside my window And leaves me here to die.
