Why Right Wing Comedians (Dennis Miller) & "Comedy Shows" Always Fail
DU's very own Grebrook has posted the inevitable news that Fox Television's attempt to position a right-wing version of Comedy Central's John Stewart and Steven Colbert has been canceled. Of course, the so-called "conservative comedian" Dennis Miller also saw his television show go down in flames even after the producers were reportedly paying members of the audience for even showing up to his unpopular live tapings. Why is this?

Question: Don't right-wingers have a sense of humor? Don't they laugh, too?

Answer: Of course, they do...they can laugh their asses off with the greatest of ease.

But the type of humor that right-wing neanderthals, mostly middle aged white christian males, enjoy can not be broadcast on the radio or television because their favored play-list is always filled with the crudest of racist jokes, misogynistic vulgarities, homophobic put-downs and xenophobic cracks. Naturally, it all reveals how socially insecure they are and how developmentally challenged they are as grown-ups, but that's the foundation for their preferred humor.

How can a conservative comedian or comedy format score with its bigoted audience without using the "n" word whenever they talk about African-Americans, the "q" and "f" words when referencing homosexuals, the "b" and "c" words when putting down women? They can't. Of course, if they could use those words on television, then Fox's "comedy" show would be a smash hit and Dennis Miller's show would still be on once the monkey of restraint was removed from his back. The ugly slur is the comedic trigger that their pent-up audience requires for comedic nervous release.

So it's no wonder that conservative comedy doesn't play on television or radio: they can't deliver the punchline that their ignorant audience is so aching to hear delivered.

"Did you hear about the n. q. c. from Mexico?" Why, just the question sets them off giggling among themselves in their delusion of supposed superiority. Sometimes I wish there wasn't censorship so we could laugh at them laughing.

And so, Fox's cancellation of their "comedy" show is no surprise. Meanwhile, Dennis Miller is now performing in small time banquet rooms in Howard Johnson's around the country. If he could only tell an n' joke or a q' joke or...

4. Republicans are top down--they only make fun of people who are "lower" on society's ladder
while "bottom-up" Democrats like to poke fun at people with more power than them. This makes for good social satire.

Republicans sense of humor revolves around racism, sexism, and making fun of the poor and handicapped.

10. Right wing comedians lack the humanity that is needed in
humor. You have to feel that the humorist has a his own weaknesses and pain. Andrew Dice Clay ultimately failed because there was no visible love of his fellow man. Even Don Rickles, the king of the insult, allows some of his humanity to come through.

If the humorist is unlikable, he will not get the audience behind him or her.

38. Yes, He usually has some comedian on...
and or rightwing actor to who usually spout the party line, or he has on a rightwing pundit who loves to say islamofascist. If someone confronts him he usually says he doesn't have anything to say until they hang up and then then he begins to say no matter what america should blow them up...

9. I think it goes a little deeper than that. But not much...these are bushbots
A lot of comics of all races and genders can do vulgar and it's very funny. For the RW comics, I think it's persona-related and Miller is the perfect example. He's quite simply a pretentious ass, pandering to an audience he is trying to be smarter than by tossing out obscure references. Any and all right-wing comics come off the same, superficial and pandering.

26. Yeah, I forgot the "jew jokes".
You know, Robin Williams can have fun with gays, blacks, latinos, women, jews and it never is mean. In many ways, he celebrates our distinctions and, of course, everyone knows whose side he is on. And...he always makes fun of himself the most.

And it's great to see you, too! Your love child (shhh) with Al should already be in first grade in that parallel universe we are hopefully soon arriving to, bluedeminredstate.

12. Topical humor is funny because it makes fun of mean people.
The right are the mean people, and they can't make fun of themselves, because the truth would hurt too much, so they can't be funny. They can do slapstick, but that's not very topical.

17. You can't do satire
On groups of people who have less power, rights, lower status quo, etc. than you do. It comes off as mean spirited, and there aren't enough people out there to laugh at, "The White House dog is Chelsea," type jokes to sustain a TV show.

The republican party/conservative movement is overwhelmingly white and male no matter how often they show the same 3 Black guys sitting in the crowd at their conventions. If they're going to use their humor to try and satirically attack people like Stewart/Colbert, they have to go after other races, women, homosexuals, the handicapped, children, etc. It just won't work.

Lot's of pee-pee/poo-poo type of jokes. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, "add-a-dick-to-me" type of stuff.

And he NEVER misses a chance to make a lame joke about women's breasts.

Just making up for all those times he got beat up in the school yard, I guess.

Lt. Hauk: "I understand you're pretty funny as a dee jay, and well, comedy is a kind of hobby of mine.
Well... well, actually, it's a little more than just a hobby. Reader's Digest is considering publishing two of my jokes."

Cronauer: "Really?"

Lt. Hauk: "Yeah. And perhaps some night we could maybe get together and swap humorous stories... for fun."

Cronauer: "Oh, why not? And maybe play a couple of Tennessee Ernie Ford records. That'd be a hoot."

Lt. Hauk: "That's a joke, right?"

Cronauer: "Maybe."

Lt. Hauk: "I get it."

22. EXACTLY
These shows never last because only rednecks continue to think, as adults, that poopoo, nigger, queer, peepee, bitch, cunt, spic, wop, kike, faggot, lesbo, etc. are funny. Hopefully most of us NEVER say some of those words and the others, like the scatological words, most of us grow out of at about 5.

28. Agreed. After Checking Out a Few RW Sites, It's Clear That RW Humor is Decidedly Mean-spirited.
I'm not saying they can't be funny (I still maintain that Dennis Miller was the best Weekend Update guy there ever was), I'm just saying they tend to be one-note. I remember a few months back when a train hit a bunch of teenagers parked in a car across the tracks, and someone here posted a link to the Freeper's site because they were saying terrible, awful things. And it's true, they were. And that doesn't seem to be unique occurrence. Even from my college days, I remember the Young Republicans always had not just the lamest comebacks and slogans, but the meanest, as well. There's something about being self-righteous that robs you of your sense of humor. That's why so many religious people are humorless, too.
