Demonstration at Don Young (R-AK) salmon feed.

For the first time in 35 years, yesterday Don Young was forced to host a meet and greet barbecue and salmon feed for the commoners here in Anchorage, to counter his usual $500 a plate pork roast, to which only the well-connected and well-heeled are invited. Here are some photos of the festivities.

I loved this guy who was camped out at the other end of the park strip in front of the big sign advertising the event.


A local moran showed up with his own sign proclaiming that Al Qaeda loves liberals, Democrats, the Anchorage Daily News, and idiots with signs that weaken America. He's having a spirited discussion here with a member of Military Families Speak Out whose husband is in Iraq.

Finally, two and a half hours into the event, the great one showed up to hand out food to the peons.

Demonstrators moved from the corner to immediately in front of the serving area so that Don wouldn't be able to miss us.


This little Native lady was yelling "No Don, No Don, No Don" as loud as she could and almost got in a fight with a young Native supporter.


Earlier in the day we saw this boy handing out Young buttons, but somewhere along the line he apparently saw the light. Diane Benson was last year's Democratic candidate, and after gaining 40% of the vote, she's taking Don on again next year.
