Insult A Race...Insult A Gender...Get $20,000,000.00
The shock jock has negotiated a settlement to his threatened $120 million breach-of-contract lawsuit against CBS Radio, the company announced yesterday. Imus was fired in April after airing racist and sexist comments during his show on WFAN/ 660 AM, a CBS-owned station, and claimed that the company owed him millions in unpaid salary and damages.

A CBS spokeswoman said details of the settlement "are confidential and will not be disclosed."

I have seen media reports that the settlement was as large as $20,000,000.00

4. CBS violated
the terms of the contract. They paid him to avoid going to court, and having large legal fees, and having a larger judgement against them.

8. I Think You Mean ABC
But now he runs the risk of being a hypocrite if he goes back to the race tinged humor that got him in trouble in the first place after his myriad mea culpas...His race tinged humor won't come off as funny (not as it ever did to some) after he has acknowledged , numerous times, it was wrong...

6. That May Be True My Friend
But if not for his incendiary remarks he wouls still have his show and whether Imus violated the terms of the agreement leading to his termination is a question for the jury to decide... You are correct that CBS didn't want to take that risk...

It's a shame the "working Joe" isn't indeminified for his own malfeasance...Maybe I was using hyperbole to make a "global" point and not a technically legal one...

PEACE

9. I think it is
fair to ask how he ended up being anything other than an obnoxious guy muttering stupid things in the corner of some dive.

10. I Never Found Him Funny But I Guess Humor Is Subjective
And also, the cries of "you're abridging his freedom of speech,. you're abridging his freedom of speech" grew tiresome... As we all know that's a prohibition against government abridging your freedom of speech not your employer...

The other argument I found tiresome was that if Snoop or Fifty can say use sexist and racist language so could Imus... They are all subject to the same market forces...

7. His contract called for him to be "edgy"
and stated that CBS had to warn him about his conduct before they fired him.

They never did, and they violated the contract.

However, did he put his foot so far up his ass he could taste shoe polish? You betcha.

He's the guy whose remarks Imus echoed...

Way to throw your friends under the bus..

12. Next time the lawyers for CBS will draft a contract which will allow the
network to fire their contractee with impunity for making comments like Don Imus. Once the contractee signs the agreement, it's over.
