Principal Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges
Principal Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges
Published: 8/18/07, 12:45 AM EDT

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A former middle school principal accused of selling crystal methamphetamine from his office and home pleaded guilty to drug charges on Friday.

John Acerra, 50, pleaded guilty to two counts of felony delivery of methamphetamine and one count of felony possession with intent to deliver. He faces at least two years in prison when he is sentenced Oct. 18.

Acerra was principal of Nitschmann Middle School in Bethlehem when he was arrested in his office during a police sting Feb. 27.

Prosecutors have said there was no indication that Acerra sold the drug to students. Acerra resigned a few days after his arrest.

Timothy McEnulty was in jail Friday night awaiting formal charges after the DEA raided his home in Overland Park. The DEA didn't find an active lab in McEnulty's house, but the DEA said it found chemicals and glassware used to make meth.

..snip
Law enforcement says the chemicals found are more than what would be stored in someone's home. McEnulty said he's a chemist who works for an Orlando based company that develops products for the defense department.

..snip

"These chemicals were used for anything from, well I had potassium's, pot ashes and nitrates, which I used for my garden," McEnulty said on the phone from jail. "I guarantee you there was no meth lab and there was no meth found on that property."

,,snip
McEnulty said he's purchased 4,000 to 5,000 chemical and glassware products over the past six months. But he said he mainly buys antique glassware on-line and re-sells it for profit.

3. Two years, that's the maximum he could get?
I'm not a fan of the drug war, but this is the kind of drug related crime that should be punished by a lengthy prison term, IMO. Do meth in your own home and I could care less. Selling meth to kids should get you AT LEAST 5-10, even if he did plea guilty.

If he were selling them pot I would be fine with a max of 2 years. But meth is dangerous and could cause serious long term problems for these kids.
