8. 30 Cat 5s in the Atlantic since 1928...

7 of them, almost a quarter, have been in the past FOUR YEARS:

Isabel (2003), 165 mph
Ivan (2004), 165 mph
Emily (2005), 160 mph
Katrina (2005), 175 mph
Rita (2005), 180 mph
Wilma (2005), 185 mph
Dean (2007), 160 mph (? could go higher)

I realize that the dataset is incomplete, and there may have been some past storms currently rated at 155 mph that were actually Category 5, but the recent spike cannot be coincidental. It's getting to where we can expect a Category 5 every year unless, as in 2006, there is an El Nino that hits before the season gets going.
