Who has been to the Yucatan? I hope I won't miss it, and I'n not
rubbing it in. I had some fun times in a Playa bar called the 'Renata', the Beer Barrel, the unparrelled beaches, a gorgeous vacation in a place I love and will go back to. Soon. Bon Chance!

1. I'm not sure what you're getting at...I've been there many times - I prefer Merida
to the snowbird tourist traps on the east coast. Cancun basically sucks. Cozumel does too. (I don't say this as any deprecation to the native folks there...they do what they're hired to do but that whole scene leaves me cold.

2. She's Getting At...
The fact it might be devastated in the next 24 hours.

The same way New Orleans was Devastated 24 Months ago.

5. Okay, I defer to your expertise in translating gibberish.
I didn't insult anyone except the nouveau-riche tourists who frequent the area. I'm surprised you didn't grasp that.

9. It was pretty obvious to anyone who watches the news, and I disagree
about Cozumel. Very nice snorkeling and diving. Also there's Xel Ha lagoon, which is beautiful. Not to ention all the wonderful Mayan ruins.
And I am hardly nouveau-riche.

3. Yawn.
You know nothing about Playa, so you diss the surroundings? Yes, for me, Cancun sucks, but that wasn't the topic, nor was Cozumel, which is the place where I was at when I discovered MX, long time ago. After I'd been to Cancun but before I found out about PDC. And SHUUUUSH!

10. Your topic was the Yucatan. Playa means beach and there are millions of them
around central and south America plus many other areas. And you're agreeing with me and yet you start out with the claim I'm 'dissing' the "surroundings"???? That was my POINT!

4. hope it's ok, but if dean wipes that disgrace Cancun off the map, so much the better.
Whole place has awful vibes, undoubtedly haunted by the many dead Mexican workers who were building that travesty when a hurricane blew thru, and they wer not allowed to come in for shelter.

7. That is what I basically referred to. I suppose it was too vague.

8. Have been to Merida and thought it was lovely...
quite European really.

Also spent time in many of the ruins near Merida.I really hope Dean does as little damage as possible....and good luck to all the people to get safely through this stormy time.

Mexico...the Yucatan is a beautiful country.

Also loved Palenque.

11. I was in Merida back in the early 80s when a storm came through,
I guess it was a hurricane but I was occupied with an engineering project and didn't pay much attention to weather reports...then it hit and the optical lab I was working with suddenly became submerged under 5 feet of water.
It was a major inconvenience but not a disaster. There's a restaurant way out on the west side of Merica whose name I can't remember right now...I know how to get there, though. They serve exotic foods that can't be found in any other place in the world. (Not endangered species, just very unusual) ;-)
