Efforts to crack down on lead paint thwarted by China, Bush Administration

From McClatchy - the only name in print news.

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration and China have both undermined efforts to tighten rules designed to ensure that lead paint isn't used in toys, bibs, jewelry and other children’s products.

Both have fought efforts to better police imported toys from China.

<snip>
The Bush administration has hindered regulation on two fronts, consumer advocates say. It stalled efforts to press for greater inspections of imported children’s products, and it altered the focus of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), moving it from aggressive protection of consumers to a more manufacturer-friendly approach.

“The overall philosophy is regulations are bad and they are too large a cost for industry, and the market will take care of it,” said Rick Melberth, director of regulatory policy at OMBWatch, a government watchdog group formed in 1983. “That’s been the philosophy of the Bush administration.”

3. another example of bush`s culture of death
we have spent probably billions over the years to rid our environment of lead based products and with in several years that effort is being undermined by our government.

9. Unfortunately, most will never hear about it.
And of those that do, they can rationalize it away...

"It's the liberal media"

"Clinton did it too"

11. If you wever heard the real story behind the lead ban in this country
You'd choke.
The way I've heard it:
Back in the late 1970's,early eighties, inside the EPA. there was ONE scientist researching whether or not lead was being absorbed by children.

He was a pariah even inside the agency. His concern was about the lead in gasoline and in paint.

Well, the EPA came up with the only real way to solve the problem - fire his ass!

However moments before they would have done that, the MacArthur Foundation had placed this man on their list of MacArthur award recipients.

Now the EPA was screwn. They had to withdraw all notions that they held of firing him. And they had to follow his recommendations.

12. This actually is understandable. ...
You see Bush depends on dementia in America for his voting base. Only the demented would vote for him. Lead contamination is an excellent way of inducing that dementia. VIOLA!
