"I want to know why I'm planning a funeral while George Bush is planning a wedding."
Edited on Tue Aug-21-07 07:56 AM by Virginia Dare
Another distraught parents asks why they have sacrificed their child...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/20/AR2007082001026.html

Army Sgt. Princess C. Samuels was a girly girl.

She was a cheerleader in high school. She had a white poodle named Skylar whose ears and tail she had dyed pink. She had her Mustang custom painted pink and purple to match a Barbie car she owned as a child. She loved fashion, especially pink clothes.

-snip-

I am very upset that this has happened," Samuels's distraught mother, Anika Lawal of Waldorf, said yesterday. "I want to know why I'm planning a funeral while George Bush is planning a wedding."

Lawal was among a number of relatives and friends mourning the loss of Samuels, who died along with another female soldier, Zandra T. Walker, 28, of Greenville, S.C., the release said. Walker was with the 4th Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Aviation Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.

-snip-

Lawal said her daughter had been ill for months and had been prescribed a medicine to treat depression and stimulate her appetite.

She was losing weight. She had been sick, but they still would not send my child home," Lawal said. "She told me they were overworked, that she sometimes worked 12 hours a day, seven days a week."

4. Why? Because you don't have the right last name or the right connections
....because you don't matter in Bush's world.

6. Why is the Post reporting this?
Don't they know how much it upsets George W. Bush when he's portrayed as an uncaring elitist? That is, when he deigns to notice accounts in the newspapers. I mean, it's tough that Sergeant Princess was killed, but gee whiz, she volunteered. Why didn't she just leech off her family, go running naked through hotel corridors, flip off photographers, then find a nice, young, overrich Republican boy to marry? Poor choices.

15. This is so sad
I can't figure out what she died from.. the medicine? Overwork? Stress? She certainly had enough of all that..

Poor kid. This should be trumpeted to the sky on all the media available. Fat chance I know, but in the 70's it would have been, and stuff like this ENDS WARS.

Or used to.

A fucking POX on these chickenhawk cowards...

22. Thanks!
All I've seen written about this gal has been vague.. guess they're trying to honor her by not bringing it up - another thing the Bush people depend on, that the troops can't SAY ANYTHING, that and the Grief that chokes up the family.

But THIS lady is TALKING, and THAT is ONE KILLER LINE, in the article, comparing a wedding to a funeral.. says it all..

the Linke is Much appreciated

21. You know, a fairy tale wedding in the White House could provoke some backlash.
I hadn't considered this angle before. If that is what they are planning, presumably they are hoping it will be a feel-good moment that will unite the nation in a giant, ecstatic, warm fuzzy. But if the Iraq war is still going as bad or worse than it is now, which is a pretty safe bet, it could be another concrete example of how far the Bush family is out of touch with the majority of the country.

Though that could cause some backlash in that direction, too.

27. There were antiwar protests during Tricia Nixon's wedding..
although I read someplace where they "agreed" to take it down the street a few blocks while the actual ceremony was going on in the Rose Garden. I'm sure there's much more to that story.
