Democratic congressman raked over coals in media over airport non-incident
This non-story is being repeated as the top story on all the San Diego news stories, and I'm sure the local Limbaugh clones (Roger Hedgecock, Rick Roberts, etc.) are going to BBQ Bob Filner all day today over it. If it had happened to a republican congressman it wouldn't even be mentioned. I have met Bob Filner, he came to my door twice during his time as a San Diego city councilman, and he is the most mild-mannered politician I have ever seen.

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2007/08/filner_explanation_to_come_aft.html

"Allegedly angry that his baggage hadn't arrived, Filner tried to enter a restricted area near the United Airlines baggage claim, "pushed aside" an airline employee's arm and "refused to leave the area when asked," according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. He may have picked the wrong employee, who decided to press charges.

Filner's office issued a terse statement in response to requests for comment:

"Congressman Bob Filner is on his way to Iraq, visiting our troops, and will have a full statement when he returns. Suffice it to say now, that the story that has appeared in the press is factually incorrect - and the charges are ridiculous."

Washington Airports Authority spokeswoman Tara Hamilton said officers did not arrest Filner but advised him that the airline employee he allegedly assaulted would be pursuing charges.

Filner, who turns 65 on Sept. 4, is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 2."

1. He deserved to be.
I'm not of the mindset that we give our reps a pass just because they have a "D" behind their names.

2. must be serious as he has to appear in court. Not good to lose your temper
in an airport.

3. I wonder what Facts are incorrect?
Or is that just a self serving statement designed to buy time while they work up a defense?
