Waldorf Mother Is Furious at Soldier Daughter's Death
Subtitled: "Many 'Don't Believe in This Mission,' She Says"

Army Sgt. Princess C. Samuels was a girly girl.

She was a cheerleader in high school. She had a white poodle named Skylar whose ears and tail she had dyed pink. She had her Mustang custom painted pink and purple to match a Barbie car she owned as a child. She loved fashion, especially pink clothes.

Skylar and some of those pink clothes will be on hand next week when Samuels, 22, one of the latest casualties of the war in Iraq, is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

snip

"I am very upset that this has happened," Samuels's distraught mother, Anika Lawal of Waldorf, said yesterday. "I want to know why I'm planning a funeral while George Bush is planning a wedding."

1. That is so sad . . .
. . . and has been repeated so many times.

But that line: "I want to know why I'm planning a funeral while George Bush is planning a wedding."

So powerful. So deep. So painful.

It could bring the final downfall of * if it's used right.

2. I read this article and ....
I thought, "What do you think happens to soldiers when they go to war, anyways? Why would this not happen to your daughter?"

5. I think the "why" was directed at the mysterious reasons
we're at war in Iraq.

Do you know why we are in Iraq?

I'm sure that if this were a legitimate war, and the person running it wasn't such a psychopathic idiot consumed with greed, this mother wouldn't be so pissed.

It's one thing to fight for the honor of your country and another to fight on behalf of an imperialist regime. There is no glory in Iraq.

6. Sort of hits home to me....
Waldorf is in the neighboring county from where I grew up. Southern Maryland is known for a tight knit community, so when something like this happens, many people suffer.

My deepest condolences to Sgt. Samuels' family. She should never have been put in that position.
