1. What became of the damage the shuttle sustained on takeoff?
Was it determined that the shuttle can land safely?

15. Really? I always thought those reentry flames were the risk.
You're right about the one coming down in Texas. Guess I haven't been paying enough attention to this. Thanks!

18. The "burn" refers to firing their rockets to drop out of orbit...re-entry
is way later as it enters the atmosphere.
:-)

19. the 'burn' is just enough to slow down and start falling
reentry is falling through the atmosphere - what makes meteors burn up

5. If it breaks apart, remember--it's OUR fault!
I heard it from Sean Hannity last night. We "environmental wackos" made them change the type of insulation used.

(yes, they do stoop this low. Every damn day.)

Edited on Tue Aug-21-07 11:20 AM by krispos42
Want to see what happens. Currently they play the same audio a few seconds apart. I haven't heard any communications from the Shuttle yet, just the narration

<on edit>

You don't need the mission audio. They play it on NASA TV. So I closed the window

23. Thanks for the heads up.
Got it on now, 5 minutes out.

Last night I pulled my wife outside at 9:30 pm PDT for a really nice pass of the ISS and then a few seconds later of the shuttle.

i don't think i could take it!

I did see the contrail from a launch once from near Orlando
But up close it has to be just unbelievable

My sister saw the last launch of Columbia, took some great pics which turned out to now be hard to look at.

I remember both of the Challenger and Columbia tragedies like they were yesterday.

44. Saw it in a thread here shortly after the launch
Some dumbass was going on about how he hoped the shuttle and its crew burned up or crashed because it was intrinsically evil or some other such idiocy. I expect anything space-related to get a lot of disdain here as often as not, but that was a new low.
